Crappie fishing in Minnesota, United States is a favorite for locals and visitors. Black Crappie and White Crappie thrive in the state’s clear, weedy lakes and slow rivers. These Panfish school up, fight above their size, and taste great. Spring and winter bring especially steady action, making this fishery fun and reliable.

Most guides use ultralight spinning gear with small jigs, tubes, or minnows. A slip bobber keeps baits at the right depth over weedlines and brush. In spring, fish the warm, shallow bays and docks. In summer, look to deeper weed edges and cribs. Fall schools roam mid-lake basins. In winter, ice fishing with tiny jigs and spoons is the go-to.

Trips are usually on calm inland lakes, so they suit families and first-timers. Your captain provides rods, tackle, and bait. Dress for the weather and bring snacks, water, and polarized sunglasses. Pack a cooler for fillets if cleaning is offered and harvest is allowed. Expect steady action, simple techniques, and lots of smiles.

Minnesota is full of productive Crappie water. Popular regions include the Brainerd Lakes Area, the Mille Lacs region, and the Alexandria Chain. The Twin Cities metro, including Lake Minnetonka, is great for quick outings. Otter Tail County and the Mississippi River backwaters also hold strong year-round potential.

Before you go, check Minnesota’s fishing license rules and local regulations. Seasons, harvest limits, and special water rules can change. Ice safety and invasive species rules also apply. Your captain will help, but anglers are responsible for meeting current requirements.

    Nothing but Hawgs!

Asked Dustin to come to the lake I live on. My usual spots weren’t productive anymore. He showed me several new spots to try in the spring, summer, fall and winter. He found a great spot and put us on big walleye and some crappies along with a few bass and northerns. The boat and equipment is top notch! We all went home with fish to eat. He even cleans your catch for you! Fun was had by all of us on board! Definitely recommend him to anyone considering a guided trip.

Excellent Guide and Tons of Fish

Fantastic experience! Our guide was fully set up, explained everything well, and made the trip especially fun for our son, who had mostly only fished off the dock before. We fished the full four hours, caught around 50 fish, and had a great variety — bluegill, sunfish, bass, crappie, northern, and walleye. We kept 21 crappies and 7 walleye. Great guide, great guy, and a really fun day on the water. We’d absolutely book with him again!

    Great trip with non-stop action!!

Fishing trip on Lake Riley. Captain Brian was at the dock and ready to go before our scheduled time and after brief safety instructions took us out and put us on the fish. The boat was exceptionally clean and organized, rods and tackle were ready to be cast and to start catching! We got our first bites within seconds and caught a good number of smallmouth ans large mouth bass, crappie, walleye, and some large bluegill and sunnies thrown in there. Some of the bass were real monsters!!

    Great experience!

Captain Brian did a great job finding fish for my fourteen-year-old and his friends. Brian was easy-going, personable, super helpful, and we caught a TON of fish. We caught huge bass, some walleye, crappie and monster sun fish. Overall it was a great experience and I would highly recommend Brian!
