Year-round salmon and crab fishing within a one-hour drive from downtown Victoria!! Experience a Salmon fishing charter like no other!  Fish and sightsee in comfort aboard my beautifully maintained, spacious classic 40’ retired commercial fishing vessel, ‘Raven’. Ideal for family or group outings (up to 6 persons) or the most diehard and serious anglers.

Make an adventure out of your next trip to Sooke or Victoria. No need to feel rushed or to get up early, Raven does one leisurely trip per day, usually with a late morning departure, and if you are lucky, it could be you!

Skipper Al Crow will be your guide, allowing you to benefit from his more than 45 years of commercial and recreational fishing experience. Al is highly regarded among his peers as one of the most friendly, knowledgeable, and successful sports fishermen on the South Island.

As well as being an experienced mariner and fisherman, Al is also an extraordinary marine naturalist and can answer all your questions about the area’s marine life and natural history as you ply the biologically diverse and near pristine shorelands of Vancouver Island’s southernmost tip where a typical trip often includes Whale and/or Sea Lion sightings.

From November to April, the Winter Chinook fishing is steady, and the crabbing is excellent. May to September is prime time for large Summer Chinook, Coho, and Pink Salmon, while September and October offer fantastic Fall Coho fishing. Every trip offers spectacular scenery and something for everyone.

All fish processing is included, and if you like, Al will set out the crab traps so you can enjoy some fresh Dungeness Crab.  

Those planning to fish in your group will need to purchase a local fishing license (one-day licenses are available).  For those planning on spectating, a licence is not required. This information is available online: Google "BC Tidal Water Sports Fishing Licence" and follow the prompts.

Rockfish and Lingcod season in Sooke is open from May 1st until September 30th. Jigging for Rock cod and Ling cod is a hands-on fishery. Some people enjoy jigging for cod over trolling for salmon. If this is you, get your group together and come aboard.  'Raven' is the perfect platform for cod jigging. We'll throw the crab traps out on the way out and pull them upon our return.

From November to April the Winter Chinook fishing is steady, with fish ranging in size from 5 to 15 lbs, and the crabbing is excellent. Stay warm and comfortable aboard Raven and enjoy our off-season rate of $600/trip for up to six people.

Crab fishing is a year-round activity.  Enjoy a fun-filled day of Crabbing on the calm and sheltered waters of the Sooke Harbour and Basin. Take in the sights and take home some tasty Dungeness Crab. Current regulations allow for the retention of 4 Dungeness Crab/person. Bring your family or friends (up to 6 people) and hop aboard my warm, spacious, and well-equipped vessel and let's set out the traps. The calm waters of the Sooke Basin are perfect for those who may be uncomfortable on the open ocean.

Year Round Crab Fishing Adventure

The Spring Chinook run from mid-May until the end of July. These fish range in size from 10 to 30 plus lbs and are large and scrappy. Current fishing regulations allow for catch and release only. Catch a beauty, snap a pic, and send the fish on its way to make another generation. By early July, we start catching both wild and hatchery Coho, the latter of which can be retained. Bring along your friends and family, we'll throw the crab pots out and have a great day fishing and sightseeing aboard Raven.

Spring Chinook-non retention & Crab

September and October offer excellent Fall Coho fishing with lots of action and feisty Coho ranging from 5 to 15 lbs.  Calm seas are the norm for this time of year, making it perfect for a family or group outing.  We'll throw the crab traps on the way out and pick them up upon our return.

Fall Coho and Crab

The Summer Chinook Salmon run from August 1 until mid-September and are a hard-scrapping fish of the finest quality, ranging in size from 10 to 40 lbs. In addition to Chinook, there is often plenty of Coho migrating through the Strait of Juan de Fuca during this same time of year, and at times, the action can be nonstop. 'Raven' offers one leisurely trip per day with a no-hurry policy and features something for everyone, even the non-fishers in your group or family.  :)

Prime time Summer Chinook and Crab

Cruise in comfort aboard 'Raven' from Sooke Harbour to the internationally renowned Race Rocks Marine Ecological Reserve and enjoy a spectacular and educational Natural History Tour of Vancouver Island's near-pristine southernmost tip. This is a personalized marine excursion for families or groups of up to six people and often includes Whale sightings. Race Rocks is a year-round Seal Lion haulout and is densely populated with California & Stellar Sea Lions and a wide range of marine & migratory birds.
