Raven Fishing Adventures
Year-round salmon and crab fishing within a one-hour drive from downtown Victoria!! Experience a Salmon fishing charter like no other! Fish and sightsee in comfort aboard my well-maintained, spacious classic 40’ retired commercial fishing vessel, ‘Raven’. Ideal for family or group outings (up to 6 persons) or the most diehard and serious anglers.
Make an adventure out of your next trip to Sooke or Victoria. No need to feel rushed or to get up early, Raven does one leisurely trip per day, usually with a late morning departure, and if you are lucky, it could be you!
Skipper Al Crow will be your guide, allowing you to benefit from his more than 45 years of commercial and recreational fishing experience. Al is highly regarded among his peers as one of the most friendly, knowledgeable, and successful sports fishermen on the South Island.
As well as being an experienced mariner and fisherman, Al is also an extraordinary marine naturalist and can answer all your questions about the area’s marine life and natural history as you ply the biologically diverse and near-pristine shorelands of Vancouver Island’s southernmost tip, where a typical trip often includes Whale and/or Sea Lion sightings.
From November to April, the Winter Chinook fishing is steady, and the crabbing is excellent. May to September is prime time for large Summer Chinook, Coho, and Pink Salmon, while September and October offer fantastic Fall Coho fishing. Every trip offers spectacular scenery and something for everyone.
All fish processing is included, and if you like, Al will set out the crab traps so you can enjoy some fresh Dungeness Crab.
Those planning to fish in your group will need to purchase a local fishing license (one-day licenses are available). For those planning on spectating, a licence is not required. This information is available online: Google "BC Tidal Water Sports Fishing Licence" and follow the prompts.
Come on aboard and make your next fishing trip a memorable one. :)

My family and I couldn’t have imagined a better day on the water. With Captain Allan and Mate (crabby Bob) they were outstanding hosts—warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely enjoyable to spend time with. Their familiarity with the area was clear, and they walked us through the most effective techniques and prime fishing spots around Sooke with ease. The morning kicked off with several juvenile chinook salmon that we caught and released, a perfect warm‑up that sharpened our skills for what was to come. By the afternoon, we were getting steady action, culminating in landing several truly beautiful mature springs—exactly the kind of catch anyone hopes for on a day like this.

Thanks, Ken: we had quite an afternoon, demonstrating what I've known for years: you don't need to get up early in the morning to catch salmon in Sooke; you need to fish the incoming tide, even when it comes in late in the day. It was our pleasure to take you, Chris, Mark, and Shirl out on the water and show your Aussie guests some true Canadian hospitality. Enjoy the salmon and come back and visit us again soon! -Allan and Bobby :)
Went out as a family, first time for all. A bunch of prairie people on a mission to catch a load of fish and crab and hopefully see a whale. Mission accomplished!!! Captain Al and Crabby Bob were awesome with everything and everyone. The fish were biting all day and hauled in some big ones. The boys were pulling in fish almost as soon as the hooks went in the water. Lots of fish and crab to eat the rest of our week long trip to the West coast won’t have to buy another meal. Whale swam by first 20 minutes of the trip as well. Excellent crew and boat to head out on. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Very easy to deal with and very accommodating.

Thanks, Leif. It was our pleasure to take you, Melissa, Kolt and Manni out for an event-filled and productive day on the water. I was super impressed by Kolt and Manni; they are two very capable young men, and you must be very proud of them! I hope you all enjoyed your holiday time away from the Ranch and that you will come back and visit us here on Vancouver Island again sometime soon. Good luck with the Ranch, and Bobby and I wish you all the best. :)

We booked as a group of 6 (4 adults and 2 kids). There is something for everyone! Allan really customizes the experience for those on the boat and gives you the space and comfort that makes you feel like you might be doing it all on your own! After an amazing lesson from a pro of course. He provides incredible local knowledge of the area, ocean, and fishing. I would absolutely recommend this trip to anyone even if you're not big into fishing. We came away learning many new things and Allan is just a fun person to hang with for a day. Beautiful boat.

Thanks, Paige. It was a fun day for me as well. I don't often get to talk about guitars when I'm out on the water with my guests. If I'm ever in Edmonton, I will definitely drop by Brandon's music store. We had an awesome day. Enjoy the rest of your stay! -Allan :)
Capt Al and the Raven are a top notch operation. After reading reviews and communicating with Al, we setup a day out of Sooke. Capt was extremely communicative, punctual and prepared to take us out. From his attention to safety and knowledge of the local fishery, we knew we had a winner! The day was a blast! We caught fish, crabs, and laughs! We brought along two children anglers with fishinf experience and Al made sure to include them in every step of the way. This trip was the highlight of our week in Sooke!

Thank you for the kind words, Freddy. It was my pleasure to take the three generations of Freds and Cam fishing aboard Raven. Hope you enjoyed the remainder of your stay on Vancouver Island, and you will come back and visit us soon. I'll be thinking about you when the Panthers are trashing the Canucks. I wish you guys the best. -Allan :)
A stellar day, from pick up to drop off went without a hitch. Sooke’s natural bounty and stunning views were spectacular. Capt. Crow and Crabby Bob were first class fisherman, naturalist and historians for the 6 Hr adventure. A warm diesel stove in the galley/ cabin area added to the comfort factor along with the traditional trolling cockpit which was great for teaching young fishers the craft of landing salmon! nice work. We look forward to returning soon .

Thanks, Rodger. It was our pleasure having you, Helena, Rowan and Scott aboard Raven for a spectacular day. We got to sample a little bit of everything: the calm weather, the whales, the Trap Shack, plenty of Coho, some nice crab and some good Chile. You know where to find us, so come back and visit us sometime soon. -Allan and Bobby :)
