Having never spearfished before I was a little apprehensive about a trip like this however Ruben was an excellent guide. The equipment was all provided and he was an excellent coach who had safety as a priority throughout which was very reassuring. He challenged me to push my boundaries in a way that was comfortable and encouraging with positive advice throughout.

This isn’t fishing in a conventional sense, this is snorkelling with a speargun and the snorkelling itself was phenomenal. Within minutes we’d seen a turtle, sharks and a ray - something I never expected and will never forget!

Sadly having swallowed a large amount of seawater I struggled with sickness but it was still a fantastic afternoon and a very much once in a lifetime opportunity.

Ruben took the time to explain everything and accommodated to all of our needs. We weren’t the best swimmers, but he made sure to make sure we shot some fish. Ended up with a 5 foot barracuda.

Captain Ruben is a give the shirt off his back kind of guide. When I asked to buy one of his companies shirts, he said he was out of stock but gave me the one he was wearing instead. What a guy!

All that aside, Captain Ruben is an extremely knowledgeable and talented spearo and mentor. I would recommend him to anyone looking for an amazing experience unlike any other. He takes the time to teach you the skills and mechanics to become efficient at the art of spearfishing. Although I learned quickly that spearfishing is no easy task, Captain Ruben with Easy Spearfishing was patient and gave me good instruction to correct my mistakes. I will proudly be a repeat client anytime I am back in Playa Del Carmen.

Ruben and Frank, his assistant, were very experienced and knowledgeable and did a great job in guiding us to catch sizeable fish. We will definitely come back. Highly recommend Ruben!
