Captain Ruben Canfield is a biologist by profession and a true fan of nature and especially the ocean. He grew up deeply intertwined with hunter and fisher culture in his area, and that is his main reason for staying at Playa del Carmen. He chose spearfishing as his fishing path because it matches his beliefs in sustainability and catching only fish that are meant to be eaten. Ruben looks forward to teaching young and old anglers about spearfishing and sustainability, on the sandy, gorgeous beaches of Mexico.

    Lo Mejor Capitan Para Pescar con Lanzas

    Una de lo mejor experiencias de mi vida! El capitán Rubén sabe mucho sobre el mar y los lugares que tengan el pez. Fue mi primero tiempo hace este y porque los instrucciones del Rubén pude pescar un pez con una lanza. Todo el viaje fue increíble, si te gustas pescar y estás quedando en a Playa Del Carmen, Tulum, o Cancún este actividad es necesario! One of the best experiences of my life! Captain Rubén knows so much about the sea and where to find the fish. It was my first time doing this, and thanks to Rubén's instructions, I was able to catch a fish with a spear. The whole trip was incredible! If you like fishing and are staying in Playa Del Carmen, Tulum, or Cancun, this activity is a must!

    Ruben and Samuel made sure we had a great experience! Ruben was very patient with our kids and taught them what they needed to know to spearfish. he was also very flexible and made sure everyone had a great time on the trip. I highly recommend him!

    An excellent afternoon

    Having never spearfished before I was a little apprehensive about a trip like this however Ruben was an excellent guide. The equipment was all provided and he was an excellent coach who had safety as a priority throughout which was very reassuring. He challenged me to push my boundaries in a way that was comfortable and encouraging with positive advice throughout. This isn’t fishing in a conventional sense, this is snorkelling with a speargun and the snorkelling itself was phenomenal. Within minutes we’d seen a turtle, sharks and a ray - something I never expected and will never forget! Sadly having swallowed a large amount of seawater I struggled with sickness but it was still a fantastic afternoon and a very much once in a lifetime opportunity. Thank you very much Ruben for the help, guidance and patience!

    Ruben took the time to explain everything and accommodated to all of our needs. We weren't the best swimmers, but he made sure to make sure we shot some fish. Ended up with a 5 foot barracuda.

To find all these amazing and great eating fish we had to dive in different depth and beautiful reefs to find them, during that time we all enjoyed to watch amazing marine life as sea turtle and eagle rays.!!!

After two hours of looking fish a big school of yellow tail jack s passed below, my costumer shoot to the nearest one just five meters deep and hit well. This powerful fish got a big fight.
