From fishing with friends at a young age to supplying lasting memories to his current fares, fishing is in his blood! Specializing in helping new anglers and children learn how to catch fish!
- Techniques
- The crew of Sir Reel utilizes a variety of techniques to keep the rod bent pending on the targeted species. Springtime Striped bass are the main target, we apply a variety of techniques depending on the day. We can start out trolling until we find the fish, then switch to jigging with flutter spoons, tossing shad bodies and live lining. At night in the bay chunking has been a big producer and live lining eels can also be an effective method in some locations. Toward the end of the spring Giant Blue Fin show up and we troll ballyhoo or live line bunker to fight these monsters up to 110” and 1000 lbs. Early summer we target everything from striper, sea bass, fluke, sharks, and tuna. The striper are usually trolled/jigged/live lined along the shore up to 3 miles away from shore. Sea bass are targeted on local wrecks and reefs with bait and jigs. Fluking is best with buck tailing and gulp on scratchy bottom along the shore. Shaking involves drifting with tide while chumming the water and placing baits at various locations in the water column and waiting patiently! The favorite species is Tuna we target both BFT and YFT at this time, with BFT about 20-40 miles off and the YFT in the canyons about 80 miles off. Early season is a troll bite on bally ho or artificials, as the summer closes the YFT switch to a night chunking bite as well as the day troll bite. The real treat in the canyons is an occasional Big Eye tuna and marlin can be hooked in the canyons pending the water quality. The big eye bite has really developed at the 100 square over the past few years. Fall season brings the best fishing of the season! Striper are migrating, blackfish chewing, and tuna still biting!
