Fishing for Alaskan halibut with Captain Jake in Homer, Alaska is one of the annual joys of my life. I look forward to it every year and have begun to bring close friends to share the experience. I’ve fished throughout Alaska, in Hawaii, Florida and the Caribbean and Captain Jake is as professional, knowledgeable, and likable as they come. We’ve all had the crusty OG who barks out orders and always seems grumpy like someone who had chum oil spilled in their coffee, but that is not the guy you get with Jake’s Saltwater Adventures. If you are lucky enough to be able to book him on one of his open days and Mother Nature and the seas cooperate, you are in for one special treat. I understand his father just bought a boat this year and is running very successful charters, so if Captain Jake is booked, ask about his dad.

The boat was clean and comfortable and the captain and first mate were friendly and respectful and knowledgeable!  We caught a couple king salmon’s, lots of cod, a sea bass, lingcod and some rock fish!  We were worn out by the end of the day…and had ~50 lbs of filets to ship home with us.  They communicated well in the days leading up to the trip and were there for any questions we had.  Prompt and prepared!  We probably saw more wild life, (whales, sea lions, sea otters, dolphins, etc) on this trip as we did on the Kenai Wildlife Tour we took a few days ago out of Seward.  We would go out with them again in a heart beat!

Captain Jake an his first mate provided excellent tour services rapidly taking us from one fishing hole to the next actively searching for Halibit, various Rock fish and Salmon as well. Seas were very rough and even the high winds didnt deter us from having a perfect fishing experience. Both the Captain amd first mate went out of their way to set up the fishing gear rapidly and always there to replace our bait and ensure we had a perfect day of fishing.  Extra Kudos to Levi the first mate who endured heavy rain and wind while we skipped over all the rough waves. He was undeterred even thoug it must have been terribly cold getting soaked through as he meticulously cleaned all the fish we caught by the time we returned to the port. Thanks for a wonderful day of fishing with my son.

Jake is a polite, easy-going captain with an equally agreeable deck hand.  The boat was well maintained, and all of the equipment was in good working order.  One fact which I appreciated is that Jake was not stuck one only one fishing technique .  In addition to conventional bottom fishing while anchored, we trolled, fished with jigs, and drift fished.  And we caught good fish with every method. 
My wife and I would rate our experience with Jake as a 10 out of 10.

Jake did an awesome getting us on the fish!  The ocean was rough and it didn’t take long for me to get sea sickness.  We had fish on the instant our lines hit the bottom.  Jake was very cool and understanding. I toughed my way through the day and at the end of the day we had a great day.  My wife caught her first king salmon.  I’d highly recommend Jake’s Saltwater Adventures.  We’ll be back to fish again.  Next time I’ll have better sea sickness meds!😁
