- Background
- Growing up in a fish-addicted family, I've been in and around the fishing culture in New Smyrna Beach, FL. I started fishing with my grandfather, catching Trout, Redfish, and Tarpon here in the Mosquito Lagoon every summer, and every day I wasn't in school or shredding the surf. In the past 6 years, I've had the bug for finding fish of all kinds in super skinny water. Watching any game fish do their natural habits in their domain is one sight I'll never get tired of. For me, it's about the eat and the expansive range of emotions one endures when all this beautiful action occurs.
- Techniques
- Sight fishing game fish on the flats is my craft. This can be done in many ways and with a variety of techniques. Whether you're more comfortable casting a spinning rod or a fly rod, all is welcomed aboard. With my twenty foot push pole in hand we'll be able to get in the right positions for an optimal cast. When fishing with me, using live bait fish or live shrimp is a great way to target fish in deeper waters near the lagoon and along the more defined banks along the mangrove lines within the lagoon. Having a rig with a long leader, 1 ounce lead, and a number three offset hook is a common technique we'll use to catch a variety of different species that move all throughout the estuary.
