- Background
- I have been in Florida for several years and enjoy fishing the Gulf of Mexico waters myself. Fishing is always a challenge and is never the same day twice. I am a "people person" and have lots of fun with the people I meet as a charter captain. I have ten years experience as a charter captain on the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River running a tour boat. I was also an assistance tow captain for TowBoatUS on the Chesapeake Bay and here in the Tampa Bay area as well as a boatswain's mate in the US Coast Guard. Charter fishing is the best of all worlds to me.
- Techniques
- I prefer to troll for Pelagic species (such as king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, barracuda, bluefish, Bonita and cobia). They are the most exciting to catch and offer more fun in the ways they take the bait. But bottom fishing for our reef species is also fun. Grouper love to take your bait and go hide in the reef which makes them a challenge. And there are many varieties of snapper, all of which make great eating. Other reef fish include hogfish, black sea bass, triggerfish, amberjack, sheepshead and the occasional shark, depending on the season.
