This is the second time we’ve been out with Big Boss or their partner boat El Patron, and they are always top notch. After a couple of days of high winds, they were able to get out with us to get after it. We had a slow morning with a couple of Dorado and a barracuda. About 4 hours in, it got crazy. The line popped, rod tip bent, the reel was screaming, and we were all giddy like little kids. After a 20 minute fight, we landed a great size sail fish. After lots of celebrating and pictures, 1 out of 8 lines went out so we could start getting the spread laid out. Not even 5 mins after the sail fish was landed, the line popped, rod tip bent, the reel was screaming, and we were going even more crazy than the first time. After a tough 30 minute fight, we landed a really good size white marlin. What a great day with a crew that will take care of everything for you, but probably get more excited than you when a fish gets hooked and landed. Thanks for such a memorable day guys. I’ll go out with you any time!!!!

The day we went out fishing there was some rather rough seas. The captain and the boat handled the swells very well. Although it is considered the slow season for fishing right now (End of Feb) the captain was still able to find us some fish and got us reeling in some Barracuda in no time! The captain was very friendly as well as the deckhand, we caught 6 barracuda and had some fresh ceviche before heading in! Other than some rough seas we had a blast! Highly reccommend the 6 or 8 hr trip as that allows you to get to some further spots which is better for the fishing! Definitely going again next time we are back in the area!

1.  Friendly, professional, experienced, and accommodating captain and first mate.
2.  Quality fishing gear.
3.  Honest appraisal of current fishing condition…however, they turned out better than expected.
4.  Caught five good-sized barracuda.
5.  Caught two Amber Jacks…one 35 lbs. and one 40 lbs.!
6.  They were very accommodating with me and 85 year old and by two grandchildren, 11 and 6…they caught red snapper and yellow snapper…we had them for supper at a local restaurant!
7.  They filet all the fish and even fixed a bit of fresh fish for us on board.
8.  Excellent trip!
9.  If in Puerto Morales, Big Boss is an excellent choice for a deep-sea fishing trip.
10.  We had to make a change in fishing days due to the weather…they were very accommodating.
11.  And, one final comment:  They got live bait before picking us up…we had booked a 6-hour trip and got a full 6 hours of fishing!  (In Florida, the charter we took included getting bait in the 4-hour trip…it took a full hour off fishing time…bummer.

We did the 3/4 day trip. We arranged to meet at the docks at 10:00 a.m. instead of the usual early morning since we didn’t want to get up early on vacation!  We had absolutely perfect weather with beautiful skies and low humidity, unusual for this area.  This was a Christmas gift for our son and he was anxious to hook some big ones. We have fished in New Jersey and then Keys but he never hooked a really large fish.  Summer is the season here for mahi, tuna etc and this is December so we understood we wouldn’t be catching any mahi.  We started trolling for Wahoo but after 2 hours with nothing we gave up and decided to bottom fish. They actually send the lines down about three quarters to the bottom and try to stay between 70 and 90 ft. These guys don’t like using weights on the lines and they have a different way to get the lines down quickly to fight the current and wind. We were consistently bringing up mackerel, beautiful large yellow tail and red snapper, Porgis and triggerfish.  We saw a kingfish jump out of the water in the distance.  Whatever you request, they will try to do it for you.  The captain and the first mate were constantly adjusting our rods and lines and moving the boat to make sure that we were always baited up and fishing at the right depth.  We brought along a packed lunch from our resort and they had fresh drinks on ice.  All in all we caught about a dozen fish. The yellow tails are much larger than the ones that you catch in the Florida Keys.  The 1st mate filleted the fish on the way back in that decided to keep and we left some fish behind for them.  When we got back to the docks the first mate walked us off the docks into the fishing village and down one street to a preferred restaurant which was more of a fish shack right on the beach with beautiful views.  It’s a family run little restaurant with tables right in the sand. I gave them our fish in a plastic bag and after some back and forth discussion they cooked it up on the grill a big tray of various kinds of fish we caught, along with fresh salad on the side and rice with avocado slices. $10 a person. Delicious and the freshest of fresh fish that you could possibly have.  Puerto Muerelos has the charm of a small fishing village and we hope it never changes.  It’s very safe and quiet.  Lots of tourists here doing snorkeling and boat tours but lots of locals doing the same.  Overall a great day. Keep in mind it would be difficult for more than four people to fish off the back of the boat. The boat itself is large but we were fishing only off the back and with the captain and first mate there it would be packed even with that number of people.  If your group is larger than that you would need to rotate.  Captain and first mate are eager to please so if you need something you just ask!

Have been fishing in Mexico a few times and big boss is the best so far! Captain will target any species you want and is very entertaining. We targeted marlin and sailfish. Hooked a white marlin 20 minutes Into the trip and shortly after a wahoo and sailfish. Crew was great highly recommend.
