Captain Michael Avinon, a fifth generation Floridian, has been fishing in Florida his whole life. He started off as a first mate in the Florida keys, then moved to Naples in 1992 and began his career as a charter captain. Over the years he's won numerous tournaments and also holds six world records that are still currently unbroken. Gaining popularity in Florida as a captain has led him to appear in multiple fishing television shows, including Captains Tales, Sportsman's Adventures with Captain Rick Murphy, Real Animals with Captain Mike Anderson, and most recently with Captain Blair Wiggins. He has also had multiple appearances on Florida Insider Fishing report as well.

5hr on 35'contender for 6 customers • 1 adultGreat experience with Capt Mike! We got on the water early. The water was pretty choppy first thing and calmed down by noon. I let the rest of the family sleep in; otherwise, we would had a bunch of sea sick kids. We didn’t have any luck catching some early morning black fin. We caught several bonitas. We moved to bottom fishing about ten miles out. Capt Mike put me on fish right away. We brought home some nice grouper, a triggerfish, and snapper. I would absolutely recommend Capt Mike for your next fishing experience.

He is an extremely experienced angler and knew exactly what to do and where to go to find the fish. I will add that he was fantastic with our 10-year-old son and made sure he had a great time. The trip was an incredible success and we were eating grouper for dinner less than 5 hours after pulling it out of the Gulf. We highly reccomend Capt Michael!

Half Day Trip – Nearshore (AM) • 4 adultsCaptain Mike was incredible! He worked quick to put us in fish and we succeeded! We caught roughly 100 fish in about 4 hours of fishing including snapper and grouper. Captain Mike and his knowledge were awesome as he truly cares that you have a great experience! I'd recommend this trip for anyone, as I believe Captain Mike is the best for the Destin area!

Red grouper continues to be really good on both the 5 and 8 hour trips including a jumbo 33” red grouper caught on an 8 hour trip.On the 35’ contender we have federal permits so we can keep red snapper on all trips until late October.

8 hour trip on the Contender

As the water is getting warmer it seems like the red snapper are moving a little deeper.For anyone wanting to catch red snapper the best option is going to be the 8 hour trip on the contender.We have been seeing some keepers along with keeper red grouper on our five hour trip.We also will start running a 6 hour trip starting this week to get out a little further offshore.

We’ve been running mostly half day trips the last few weeks catching plenty of keeper grouper and snapper for dinner but last week we ran an 8 hour trip and did very well with a limit of both red grouper and red snapper.We are booking most of the nearshore offshore trips due to the weather on the contender.

Been a little breezy so far this summer but with the 35’ contender we’ve been able to get offshore.Red snapper opening was June 1 and its been pretty good so far this season and plenty of red grouper also.Most 5hr trips we’re catching plenty for dinner and on the 8hr trips we’ve been consistent catching our limit.

Seeing red

Seems like this year both the inshore and offshore fishing has been really good .Inshore we’ve seen quite a few large trout and slot reds .Offshore the red grouper bite has been on fire with 4-6 keepers on the half day and limits on the full day. Red snapper season this year starts May 22nd and from what I’ve seen the last month it should beva good one.

Red grouper fishing continues to be really good with keeper grouper on the half days and limits on the 8 hr trips.Recently had a local group on an 8 hour trip and finished the day up catching amberjacks on light tackle after we caught our 6 man limit of red grouper and triggerfish.Also seeing plenty of vermillion snapper and porgies mixed in so if you’re ready for fresh fish tacos or putting some filets in the freezer give us a call.
