The nearshore action is heating up. Atlantic bonito are trickling in, and in a week or two, theyโ€™ll be here in numbers. Right now, folks are picking them off one by one. Meanwhile, big gray trout are showing up, and even tautog have made an appearance. On top of that, weโ€™ve got porgies, ringtails, and black sea bass in the mix. If youโ€™re looking to catch this wave, April is your window, because once the run is on, boats will fill up fast.

Fishing along the Cape Fear coast is heating up as we move deeper into spring thereโ€™s plenty of action both nearshore and offshore. Nearshore, the black sea bass bite has been excellent. These fish are stacked up on the wrecks and reefs and providing constant action. If youโ€™re looking for steady rod-bending fun, nearshore trips are producing plenty of bites right now. Offshore, weโ€™re also seeing big American red snapper showing up thick on the deeper structures. While these fish must be released outside of the open season, itโ€™s still an incredible fight and a great opportunity to catch some truly impressive fish while targeting other bottom species. Looking ahead, weโ€™re also keeping a close eye on the arrival of Atlantic bonito. Historically, these fast-moving fish start showing up around late March into early April, and we expect them to move into our waters any week now, with the bite usually getting strong by the first week of April. With warming water temperatures and more migratory species on the way, the fishing is only going to keep improving. If youโ€™re looking to get out on the water, now is a great time to book a trip and take advantage of the action.

Spring fishing is starting to fire up along Carolina Beach and Wrightsville Beach. Right now the nearshore wrecks are loaded with black sea bass. The bite has been extremely consistent, and limits are coming fairly quickly on most trips. If youโ€™re looking for steady action and great table fare, the nearshore sea bass fishing is about as reliable as it gets at the moment. A lot of bait has moved onto the beaches, including silversides and other small baitfish, which is a great sign for whatโ€™s coming next. Atlantic Bonito have already started showing up 10โ€“12 miles offshore, and as soon as water temperatures push consistently above 55ยฐF, they should move much closer to the beach. When that happens the bite can be fast and exciting with fish feeding aggressively on the surface. Historically, the bonito run is short but intense, typically lasting only 2โ€“3 weeks, with late March through early April being the prime window. Once the bonito push through, weโ€™ll start seeing a strong run of Spanish mackerel along the beaches, followed by increasing king mackerel activity both nearshore and offshore. Offshore fishing has also been productive with large king mackerel already being caught, but this time of year the key is finding the right weather window. Spring conditions can still be a little volatile offshore, so trips further out depend on the forecast. If you want the most consistent fishing right now, the nearshore trips targeting black sea bass are producing every day. And with the bonito run expected any time, the next few weeks should offer some of the most exciting fishing of the spring season. Tight lines!

As we hit mid-October, the local fishing scene is really coming alive. Hereโ€™s what you need to know: Inshore and Nearshore Updates: โ€ข Bait Situation: Youโ€™ll notice mullet starting to thin out, especially on the ocean side. In the rivers, youโ€™ll still find a few, but as a substitute, live shrimp is your go-to bait right now. โ€ข Speckled Trout: The speckled trout run is in full swing inside the jetties. Itโ€™s a fantastic time to target them, and using live shrimp is really paying off. If you can get out past the jetty, youโ€™ll also find some great trout spots offshore. โ€ข Mackerel and Kingfish: Spanish mackerel are still hanging around, and kingfish will be nearshore for the next month or so. Offshore and Gulf Stream: โ€ข Wahoo and Tuna Action: The Gulf Stream is heating up, literally. Itโ€™s extremely hot with wahoo and tuna action really picking up. As we move deeper into the cooler months, trolling is only going to get better as that warmth consolidates and the fish stay active. Final Tips: Overall, itโ€™s shaping up to be a great season ahead. Just keep an eye on the weather, as your targeting options will depend on those good weather days. But right now, things look fantastic, especially for those speckled trout inshore.

Hey anglers! The fall bite is on fire right now, and weโ€™re seeing some fantastic action both nearshore and offshore. Nearshore Action: โ€ข The king mackerel are still running strong and should continue their run through the end of October and even into November. Live bluefish are your ticket to hooking those bigger kings. โ€ข Red drum are also on a hot streak through the end of October. As we move into winter, theyโ€™ll push into the shallower backwaters to stay warm, so thereโ€™s plenty of good drum action ahead. โ€ข Speckled trout season is upon us, and the specks are showing up in good numbers. Great time to target them! โ€ข Mullet are starting to thin out a bit, but thereโ€™s still plenty around to keep the predators interested. Offshore Highlights: โ€ข Offshore fishing is heating up with plenty of wahoo and tuna being caught as close as 30 miles out. The albacore bite is absolutely everywhere right nowโ€”just head out about 5 miles and youโ€™ll find them hitting every few minutes. โ€ข The offshore bite is pretty consistent year-round if you pick the right weather windows. It can get choppier in winter, but thereโ€™s still great pelagic and bottom fishing on those calmer days. In short, itโ€™s looking like a fantastic few months ahead. Whether youโ€™re sticking close to shore or heading offshore, thereโ€™s plenty of action to be had. Tight lines!

Hey anglers! Hereโ€™s the latest scoop on whatโ€™s biting around here. The inshore action is looking good, especially if you time your trips around the right tides. With the mullet run in full swing, live bait is easy to come by, and weโ€™re seeing plenty of drum, flounder (though you canโ€™t keep them right now), black sea bass, and even some surprise sharks on almost every trip. The fish are a bit scattered this time of year, but hitting the morning or evening tides is the key to a strong bite. If you venture a little further offshore, the fishing is fantastic, especially at first light if youโ€™re after pelagics. The Gulf Stream is good year-round, with summer months offering excellent bottom fishing. As we head into September, October, and November, expect the pelagic bite to really heat up with tuna and wahoo making a strong run. Nearshore, weโ€™re also gearing up for a fantastic Spanish mackerel season along with speckled trout, gray trout, black drum, sheepshead, and redfish. We have been cst hing a lot if doormat size founder latly and the season for this uear rund from september 1โ€“14. This is truly one of the best times of the year for both nearshore and offshore action. If youโ€™re thinking about booking a trip, nowโ€™s the perfect time!
