I had booked a half day of bottom fishing on the reef specifically for various species of Snapper and Grouper. When I arrived at the boat they asked me what kind of fishing we wanted to do and when I told them bottom fishing the captain had to run to another boat to get terminal tackle since he was planing to troll. He told us he would start by trolling and then bottom fish when we got out to the reef. The only tackle he had on the boat were two light freshwater rods and reels rated for 4-12 lb. line and up to 5/8 ounce lure weight. He rigged these with rapalas and trolled between the breakers and the beach for a couple hours. We had three strikes during this time two of them were too much for the light tackle and took one long run into rocks and broke off. My son did manage to land the third, a tiny amberjack. The captain didn’t even seem to know how to fish, the fish that broke off were running and taking drag and he was screaming reel, reel even though reeling a spinning reel while the fish is running out drag would only twist the line. He then went outside the breakers and put on bottom rigs and cut ballyhoo for bait. We drifted over the rocks for about 1/2 hour and caught a 4 inch black grouper and a squirrel fish. He then said it was time to troll back to the dock because by then we would be out of time. They also said they would provide transportation to and from my hotel but when I got to the dock they made me pay $40 extra for cab fare. Overall it was a total waste of time and money, I have fished all over the world and while sometimes the tackle was old and banged up I’ve never before had tackle so unsuited to the type of fishing and species we were targeting.

Our trip has mixed reviews.  Pros very nice boat and beautiful marina.  Boat was equipped nicely to fish.  We were expecting to fish w Anthony but went out w Brian who was very nice and accommodating to us especially since my wife was sick half way into our trip. Cons: although the day was sunny, it was windy and we fished during high tide.  Unfortunately we did not catch any fish and only had a few bites.  I wasn’t sure if it was just bad luck or if our captain was not as experienced fishing in high tide because he would get on the radio and talk to others. This was our first time fishing in the Dominican and I probably I would have cancelled or rescheduled our trip ahead of time if I would have seen the weather report and paid more attention to the tide.

Carlos and Franklin gave us a memorable and fun trip of fishing and snorkeling.

The fish still weren’t hungry after a couple hours. But Capt Carlos tried multiple spot and checked with other captains we finally brought in a trophy sized barracuda and a great wahoo dinner.

Celebrated with some cocktails and eventful snorkeling.

Highly recommended.

We had a great time fishing for Marlin on this charter! Anthonly Perez was prompt and responsive to my inquires. He was informative and personable. Marlin Fever is a 36’ Phoenix that was clean and comfortable. The equipment was high quality and the captain and crew were very experienced and fun to be around. They did everything possible to get us the fish - they changed the bait frequently, S turning, zig zagging, changing speeds and ultimately I did get my marlin! We caught one, missed one and had a Wahoo bite one of our lines! I would highly recommend Anthony Perez and his team for a great deep sea fishing experience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb35wMIV7OM

We had some crazy weather with rough seas which made for a difficult time on the water.  The Crew did what they could to get us on fish and we did pull in a Mahi Mahi and Barracuda.  A couple Woohoo’s almost hooked up but cut our baits and lines.  The Owner the boat offered to take us back out later in the week because they felt bad that the weather wasn’t ideal.  Very nice gesture. I would recommend this company and boat to the casual angler and would use them again when I find myself back in the DR.

Captain worked hard and was very sociable. The fishing was extremely slow. Only 2 fish caught in the 4 hours. Both were caught trolling which was not the expected method of fishing.  He did stop trolling to try bottom fishing with bait. We had no bites and he did move three times with no luck. We then returned to trolling and he changed tackle several times through the trip. Overall hoped for a lot more action. This is my 3 rd time fishing here in punts Cana. Not that I pressed with the fishing inshore or off shore. Not the captain,s falt. I think the fishing is just not what I expected.

Thanks Mr. Shea for your comments , Alex was your captain and some times the fish are slow in the reef area due weather changes the wind and current , I see he tray couple places by your coments and different techniques, but it’s fishing and some times it’s like that usually normal 4 hour day at least 7 to 8 bites and yellowtails and amberjacks are the species more frecuently at this type of fishing at punta cana .

My wife and I were very excited for this trip, and Atlantdia did not let us down. Captain Alex greated us at the dock, led us to the boat, and within 5 minutes of arriving we were under way. We trolled through the marina and out to the reef. Within 5 minutes we hooked into a yellowtail snapper. We trolled for another 20 minutes when I then asked if we could do some bottom fishing. Captain Alex quickly made a tackle adjustment for my wife and I, and on my first cast I hooked into a small grouper. We were having a blast, which is right when the trip went bad on my part.
I have been sea sick in the past, but it has been 6 years since the last time. Captain Alex noticed I wasn’t feeling well. I started getting sea sick, and after it did not go away Captain Alex made every adjustment possible to help accommodate me. We moved to the inside of the reef and ultimately moved to the calm water in the cove in an effort to calm my stomach. Eventually I asked to go in and Alex was more than happy to assist in helping me feel better.
I am a seasoned fisherman (inland lakes mostly), and had I not gotten sea sickness I am confident we would have caught a lot more fish.
Captain Alex had a lot of knowledge of the reef and were to catch fish. My wife and I will be back again to use Atlandia Punta Cana, but next time I will bring the Dramamine for myself.
Thank you Anthony, and captain Alex for doing everything possible to make our fishing trip a great success!

I had a great day out with Atlantida. First off, I wasn’t sure what to expect because I intended on fly fishing and from what I’ve heard, it’s not very common here. Before I got on the boat, the captain and Anthony explained what type of lures and bait they use. Luckily some of the streamers I brought matched the size and color (clouser minnow in white, yellow, and a green back). The captain took us out over some shallow reef areas and I hooked up almost immediately stripping fast with both hands. I landed a number of mangrove snapper and amberjack all on the same fly.  None of the fish were big by any means, but the captain set that expectation from the beginning.  At the end of the trip, the captain took us into the shallows by the marina and we saw some big tailing tarpon.  I switched to a top water fly, but they weren’t interested. I would totally recommend this trip to anyone.  If you intend on fly fishing, make sure to bring your own flies that match the local forage.

The trip fell considerably short of my expectations regarding targeted species,I phoned the owner of the company 3 days prior to the trip as requested, just to outline what I was after,he didn’t for-see any problems. However when I arrived at the quayside the guide taking me out spoke very little English and was not the person I spoke to initially..I set up my Fly rod and spinning rod,and we proceeded to motor about 150yds from the harbor,with-in 5 mins we saw a pair Tarpon which looked promising however they weren’t interested in anything. We then went in search of Bone fish outside the harbor but if became obvious to me that the shallows were very cloudy for whatever reasons and the chances of catching anything here were nil.
After trying for an hour (i don’t know why i bothered !)we left and went trolling where by my guide hooked 3 small reef dwellers about 8ozs each.Communication was very minimal an advise was nil.We arrived back at the dock at exactly the time the trip was to end .On a brighter note the Taxi driver was very humerus and on time.
Fishing is a very variable sport and we do not expect to catch all of the time however I did expect a little bit more for my 380 dollars for my 3 hours !.Punta Carna

The trip to and from marina was easy and fast. When we got to the marina we were greeted by the captain and first mate. They were both very friendly and excited about getting out on the water to catch some fish. After about a hour we had are first hit with a baracooda but didn’t hook up. About 15 mins after that we got into the mahi and it was a double hook up! This is were it got exciting they were getting other lines out of water trying to keep lines from crossing each other. A lot going in at once lol very exciting. The 2 mahi were good size and put up a great fight! Not to mention the sharks trying to attack mahi on way to boat WAS AWESOME!! If you want top notch service with a friendly and knowledgeable crew this is who you need to book with. I would DEFINATLY fish this captain and crew in a minute!!

It was the best time on my vacation. I enjoy fishing but it was more than that. Spectacular views , our captain was super friendly and when we got back Anthony was there. Also a friendly person enjoyed his talks. I will definitely book again next time I go. It’s a must !!!!!!

The Marlin Fever is in good condition and definitely one of the better fishing charters I’ve done in my limited experience (less than a dozen trips) in Caribbean/Mexico. Seas a bit rough and one seasick casualty for most of the voyage. Captain has limited English but knows the area. Spend first 2-1/2 hours trolling for marlin with no luck but once captain turned attention to dorado we started hooking up. Landed 7 of 8 in the remaining 1/2 day charter before returning to dock. Hooking up a marlin would have made overall experience a 5.

Our family had a great half day experience and would do it again in a heart beat. The crew was top notch. The owner was extremely nice. They even called and asked if we would like to moved our date because they thought the weather wasn’t going to be nice. The only complaint would be the toilet was not working correctly. We did try and do some fishing for the kids, but no luck. If you are wanting to strictly do fishing I don’t believe this is the boat for you. If you want to do some fishing while hanging out with the family in the sun and doing some snorkeling then this is the boat for you.

and best deal for a half day deep sea fishing trip.

This was our first trip out in Punta Cana. Boat was nice and crew was ok. Seas in this region are very rough but we stayed out the full half day while all the other boats came in due to rough seas. We caught a 6 lb Mahi and 5 lb Barracuda. Captain was nice enough to throw some bait fish out for the kids to catch some yellowtails. Was a experience to remember but we won’t do another charter in Punta Cana.

Thanks Rich for your comments , caribbean seas are 3 to 4 ft in a normal weather conditions for us , that day went up to 6 and some time 7 ft, but usually its 3 to 4ft and for your 2 kids (8 to 12 years old) was rough seas !!! i Full understand ! . Thanks for the good review for the boat and crew , for the weather conditions that day… i can’t do nothing to avoided. That it’s mother nature !
thanks…

Captain and deck hand work really hard to put you on the fish.. Caught what we intended which was several Dorado (Mahi). This made for a wonderful dinner being that this outfit allows you to keep 100% of your catch. We had two huge White Marlin track our lures but never struck. It was Fathers Day 2016 and I had my two boys 10 & 11 yrs of age and they were able to catch thier first deep water fish which will live in our memories forever. Aside from no A/C in the cabin, boat was fine. I would suggest if there’s any question of anyone getting sea sickness then this may not be the boat for you. Cabin is hot and restroom down in the bow will certainly make it worse. Otherwise no other complaints.

Overall start to finish a very good experience.  Anthony is quick to return e-mails and calls to get everything set up.  Very organized.  Guide put me on a good number of fish - yellow tail, grouper, amberjack, and snapper.  Only thing I would recommend is to take some pictures with your own phone/camera - guide took all the pics with his phone, but waterproof protector that phone was in made the pics not as bright/clear as they could have been.  That was the only minor issue, so I recommend highly.

We went to an inshore trip using spinning tackle on May 2016. The boat itself and all tackle in a pretty good condition.
I was expecting to cast on a flats with short trolling transfers between spots and that’s what I was talking with Anthony before. But his captain didn’t talk any English and took us trolling all the day outside the reef on the light tackle. We’ve caught several 1-pounder yellowtails and it was pretty useless overall. I have a better results casting just in front of the hotel.
Overall we did maybe ten casts on flats on the way back. I saw several schools of barracudas and permits and asked for stop but we’ve just passed them.

Looks like guide didn’t care about fishing at all. He was listening to Spanish radio and talking on phone all the day. I feel like he said only 3-5 words during the trip at all.

Definitely worst guide fishing experience in my life.

On 4/04/12 we went on an inshore trip.  We fished from “The Reef”, the smallest of the boats in Anthony’s fleet @ 24’. We only caught a couple of small fish on our trip, but the weather, also, was not at all suited for catching fish.  On the other side, with Anthony as our guide, we had one of the most enjoyable and memorable trips we have ever had.

Anthony worked his heart out as he never stopped trying to find fish.  We covered an inordinate amount of water and structure in our search, but to no available.  We did learn a lot of the history of the Punta Cana ⋒ Cana areas, which in itself is very fascinating.

The long and short of it: The day was beautiful, the boat was comfortable, the equipment was all newer top of the line, and Anthony was fantastic to be with.  If we get back to Punta Cana , I will not hesitate to book with Anthony Perez again.  I would highly recommend Anthony Perez to anyone looking for a good time on the water.  One other thing: Let Anthony arrange for your transportation to and from your resort.  Anthony’s driver charged us $20 each way where the hotel price was $45 each way.

Good Fishing,

Bob & Peggy

Mr. Perez is a very nice and honest man who keeps a very clean boat and did a great job communicating throughout the trip.  Transport from hotel to marina was excellent.  Boat is great for a family sight seeing cruise.  As a fishing expedition it was very disappointing…it wasn’t just that we had poor fishing results, but that the crew showed no ability as to how to pattern or target fish.  They didn’t change bait color or technique during the entire trip.  They didn’t appear to have fly fishing gear on board and the gear they did have was very limited and of average quality.  If your expectation is to motor around in circles in calm beautiful water, listen to music, have a cocktail, and maybe wet a line this is a great trip.  If your focus is fishing I would select a different trip.  While I do not recommend this charter for fishing (I would recommend it as a pleasure cruise) I would use Mr. Perez for a different charter.

Very disappointing, went out a little further than a long pier.  Drinks and snacks were a joke.  Fishing equipment was old and one reel broke on our trip.  The line on the rods was old, worn out, and constantly tangled.  Worse fishing trip I have ever had.  We caught a couple of small fish, and that was it.  Paid 4x’s what this was worth.  Did not even go on the same boat we reserved.  Two stars is a stretch.

Hi Mr. Peter , sorry for that , but that week was a eastern week in Dominican Republic and i personally explain to you before get to the boat the changes we did because the strong winds and inshore swells at the punta cana marina . I remember even give you a discount the same day of your trip because the changes with out you requested. But don’t worry your comments help us a lot and now we have braided lines and shimano reel in all of our boats , next time you come please give us the chance to meek it up for you and your family at no charge .
thanks for your comments we learn a lot from it .

Had a great time on the Rich and Famous cruise.  The captain and mate were very knowledgable and accomodating.  The captain put us on fish right away and even the less experienced anglers caught fish.  The non-anglers in our party of eight commented that they wished every fishing trip could be this much fun.

What a great experience. The Reef is the right boat for flyfishing and Anthony and his guide understand the water and potential perfectly. Day two we caught Baracuda, Amberjack, Yellow tail, Palometa, Mangrove snapper and Grouper, all on fly! This water has great potential and I will be back to ho for the other species I have seen swimming such as: Snook, Tarpon and bonefish as well as some huge Amberjack and Yellow Tail we have seen. On the reef, at some nice bottom and harbour structures, wading in shallow areas, all is possible! If you know about fly fishing, this is a location that is still unknown, but with great potential. Bring an 8 weigth rod or above ( mainly to cope with the always abundant Caribean wind) with you and a clear tip line. Some 10 to 20 pound tippet and if you have a spare rod fit it with wire as the Baracuda grow big here and love your fly and like to bite it in pieces. Bring some green clousers, green white clousers, some large needle fish type of fly, shrimp in any shape or form (Gotcha, Crazy Charlie etc in natural colors, ranging from size 8 to 2), these flies will do the trick (no fishing presure here). Also be prepared for some strong current so you may want a 200 or 300 grain sinking line as a spare!
This is all inshore and I am excited to explore offshore too! More to come on that part.
All in all a great few days with good fishing, great guide and boat and a lot of potential for the near future!!!

I had 2 trips with them. One for fishing and one for the family. Both were great success

The fishing trip took us past the reef with a mixture of trolling and fly fishing (I did bring my rod and flies). The crew was top, helping me with the choice of flies lures and bringing great fishing. In 3 hours we had more than 30 fish, 3 rod all bended more than once…. This was a non stop fishing.. The captain stops the boat so I could flyfish, but it was almost not necessary. Most of the time 4-5 jacks were following he one caught and were happy to get the fly :) We had a mixture of fish with white and yellow jacks, snappers, king mackerels and groupers.

the family trip was inshore (before the reefs) and was a lower pace but perfect for a relaxing day with the family. The crew could not stop to be helpful. We had some some snorkelling, the 1st mate was swimming everywhere trying to find some interesting views, and he found a flounder. We went to a “natural pool” ...being in the middle of the sea with 50cm of water is very strange, once again the 1st mate was trying hard and found a stingray and a huge hermit crab… All these with some fishing between the stops and we manage a couple of snappers….

All the admin was great and easy, dealing with them via email, the transport was on time and very friendly. The boats are very clean and well maintain. I would recommend them to everybody (fisherman or family) Just talk to them and explain what you would like.

There were absolutely no real issues with the trip other than rough seas. The captain and crew were superb. Antonio Perez at Atlantida runs a first class operation. He knows how to take care of people! We caught five e good Mahi Mahi and had a couple of Marlin strikes so I was quite happy. Just one note, they really should put the footrest on the fighting chair. All arms will wear you out with a big fish!! I did speak to Antonio about this and he explained there had been several customers who had bloody shins from the footrest

Our communication with the captain wasn’t the best but perhaps it is because of the language barrier. Anthony spoke English but the drivers and handlers were difficult to understand and we were left wondering if we were going to the correct place. He did take us to La Vikinga though and was pleasant.

The driver walked us over to the dock and we found the boat. There was some discussion, mostly in Spanish about who was taking us out. So if you can imagine, I am there with four children and $1100 in US dollars with strangers. I was not sure if I was paying the correct person.

We did go out and unfortunately the seas were rough. I am grateful the captain brought us back after two hours and then took my son and daughter out to catch more fish. They caught dolphin but no billfish. This is understandable as there is never a guarantee to catch fish.

By the end I felt comfortable with the captain but I can tell you it was very unnerving at first. I would suggest they find a way to make the transaction more smooth and make the customers feel safe.

Your company has been helpful and gracious. I thank you for your assistance.
