My brother came to town for a visit and wanted to go fishing, so we booked Captain Rick for a half day morning charter for walleye fishing. Fortunately we had perfect weather and the fish were biting. Not only that but we kept him very busy running 6 lines and he took care of literally everything but reeling them in. He was constantly doing about 10 things at once keeping the lines set and making sure we were having a good time. He also filleted and packaged our catch up for us.

Rick is very knowledgeable about the lake and taught me a ton about fishing here. I live here but haven’t been out fishing before so it was very cool that he shared a lot of his knowledge with me. I would definitely recommend booking with him.

    First of all, I am an avid fisherman from south Georgia. My dad worked in Detroit for Ford Motor company prior to moving to Georgia to marry my mom. It wasn’t the job that he spoke the most about from his time in Detroit, It was the Walleye fish that he would catch that he was the most fond of. I could almost see him drool when he spoke of the white flaky meat that had better taste than any of the fresh water fish here in the south.
    Fast forward 50yrs. My dad has passed on and I have retired. Bucket List #1. Catch and eat Walleye from the Detroit River.
    Not knowing anything about how to catch Walleye, I decided I would charter a boat. I searched the W.W.W. to find a Fishing Charter. Eastside Fishing Charter had very positive reviews so, I decided to go with them. I am usually somewhat skeptical about reviews because they are rarely a true reflection of a product or service. Lots of reviews are made by friends and family or even discounted product for a 5 star rating.
    However, If you are interested in chartering a boat out of the Detroit River/Lake Erie for Walleye, read this review and take it as the law of the land. I have been on several chartered fishing trip throughout the USA. Of them all, my experience with Captain Rick on Monday, May 6, 2024 was the most awesome chartered trip i have ever taken part of.
    Believe me when I say; Captain Rick is a “Charters Captain, Captain”. The man has the personality of someone who has never met a stranger. His characteristics were sunny, entertaining and engaging. His knowledge of water and water safety, his knowledge of the species we pursued and his overall professionalism are unsurpassed. The man seemed to enjoy being out on the water as much as I did and remember, this was a bucket list fishing trip.  My cousin Kenny had not been fishing in 45yrs, basically it was the first time he ever truly fished. Captain Rick was patient and informative with him and made both of our time on the water “An Adventure to Be Remembered”.
    Cant give but 5 stars. In this case, I would like to give ten.

Captain Rick and our party were surprised on our trip by unexpectedly, high waves, wind, and poor fishing conditions. Obviously, not Captain Rick’s fault, but he did his best to make up for it by taking us to bay areas sheltering us from the highest waves and stayed out an extra hour to allow us to double our catch when the fishing improved. I think that when things are less than ideal, you learn a lot about someone’s character. Captain Rick showed us today his true colors and did a great job!

Best captain there is, this is my second time going walleye fishing with captain Rick and just like the first time, my fishing experience with him went way beyond my expectations, caught a lot more fish then I thought I would, I’ve had a lot of different fishing captains in my life, but captain Rick is the only one I have and will continue going back to. I caught more fish with him than I have ever caught with anyone else, and his personality is super friendly, funny, and just awesome overall. He set up all our lines, had us real in all the fish, and helped us every single time we needed help, he knows exactly what to do and how to do it, there were times when three of us would have a fish on at once, it was a unbelievable experience! Go with captain Rick if you truly want a really good and fun fishing trip!!!

While the trip wasn’t successful as far as fish in the boat that happens musky fishing. I did however learn about trolling for the species and when the fish aren’t biting having a guide that will teach and socialize makes the trip much better. I can take what I learned back to my home waters.
