We had a great time. In a new location. And caught a new species, redfish!

Been out with many fly fishing guides over the years but Captain Shaun Daniels is one of the best! We enjoyed being out with him!  Put us on alot of fish!  Can’t wait to go out with him again on our next trip!

Clay took us out and put us right on the fish. Black drum, reds, stingrays… We saw them all. We even jumped out of the boat with our rods to explore a mangrove and trekked to an area where it opened up and the fish were EVERYWHERE!  Can’t wait to go back for another trip. Great guide, great trip.

Highly recommend Fly Fish Rockport to anyone who wants to learn fly fish hunting in the Gulf Bay, or anyone who is a seasoned fly fisherman wanting a great saltwater experience.  Captain Gibson taught my nephew and I how to properly hunt and spot Redfish, cast in front of them, and hook them.  He also taught us much about the culture, respect and passion for saltwater fly fishing.  We struggled at first as weather was not ideal, then it warmed up and got calm and the fish started feeding.  It is a great experience, even if you don’t catch anything first time out as a beginner.  Nothing requiring skill is easy.  Gibson was very patient with us and continued coaching and encouraging.  He is highly skilled and a great guy.  He provided a demonstration that created a lasting memory: We saw a few nice ones near the banks and our casting lacked accuracy.  Gibson got out of the boat, cast one perfect strike right on the nose of a fat Redfish, and boom, it slammed the fly and ran screaming through the water about 30 yards.  Gibson reeled it in and we celebrated, and captured one of the coolest fishing videos ever.  We plan to use Gibson/Fly Fish Rockport again until we can do the same one day.  A fantastic, fun memory.  We also saw incredible wildlife near the National Wildlife Reserve: saw a huge wild boar on the bank, boated very close to a 10 foot alligator, and saw some amazing large birds - such as endangered Hooping Cranes - all magnificent animals that made our experience even better.
