The boat was older and a bit worn, the Captain was young (a replacement Captain) and not as experienced. The Capt. and crew were polite but not talkative. They waited until we arrived (8:30am because of our cruise ship) to get bait, or even fuel the boat. We caught no fish, and didn’t even get a bite. Captain and first mate were first rate. They were ready early and kept us out late so we could get my son one more mahi mahi. Than they had some fun coming back into the marina with the local sea lions and pelicans. Overall great experience, and solid value.

This fishing trip is great for those who just want to catch fish. The boat is a bit run down but clean and the bench seats without backs aren’t the most comfortable. The crew however was great! Jose and Andreas definitely knew their stuff and were great fishermen. We caught a few Bonita fish and a nice mahi mahi and took the mahi with us to have cooked up at a restaurant.

I had a great time with the crew on La Guaycura!  I caught a blue marlin trophy fish that weighed 250 lbs!  I also caught a striped marlin that was jumping out of the water as I was reeling it in.  The trip fulfilled all of my dreams!

We had a wonderful time fishing on the La Guaycura. We had a few bites and all in all we ended up with two Mahi Mahi. The captain even kept us out a little longer to try for Marlin, but no luck. The crew has water and can pick up beers (for an extra fee of $15 per person for 12) for you. They offer box lunches but not worth it honestly ($15 per person for a dry sandwhich and chips) Best to make sure to bring your own snacks.
