Can’t fish more than two rods at a time. If the fishing is slow (it was for us), there’s a ton of just sitting around in the sun with nothing really to do. Also keep in mind, there is almost no cover from the sun on this boat besides the T-Top which doesn’t offer much. You can tell the captain cares and takes care of his stuff, we just had a slow day that felt worse because of the sitting around in the sun. I wouldn’t recommend groups larger than 2 take this trip, it can feel cramped.

Booked a Costa Rica fish/surf trip for my son’s 21st birthday. Captain Luis put us on fish and we landed a very nice sailfish. He was in contact with other captains by radio so we ran to an area where the tuna were hitting and caught several nice tuna. Captain and mate were very proficient at their jobs. Keep in mind this is a smaller size craft so not suitable for large groups but very capable for 2-3 adults. Would definitely book again.

Luis and his wife know their stuff! They asked what we wanted to fish for and when my son said sailfish, we set out 20 miles off shore and ended up reeling in not 1, but 2 beautiful sailfish. They also provided sodas, water, beer, fruit, and delicious guacamole and plantain chips. There was even some shade on the boat so we could get out of the sun occasionally. Luis taught my son and husband how to fight the fish and reel them in. It was a fun 6.5 hours out on the water.

This was one fun experience for myself and brothers. Luis & his partner were punctual with time, they had a well organized boat perfect size for our small group & they had refreshers and snacks for us. We caught about 12 different sized fish of all sorts. At the end they filleted them for us and we took them to a look restaurant where they cooked it on the spot!!! Highly recommend Captain Luis and El Gato!

Captain Luis and mate Allan were right on time picked me up right from the beach at my hotel. Started with a quick stop at a local buoy for some live bait, 15 minutes later hooked up with a little tuna. Went off shore 50lb + Mahi, hooked up again and got a nice blue marlin right next to the boat where his bill cut the leader. Baits back out caught and released 100lb+ sailfish. Day ended with dolphins and a whale shark sighting.
