The spring is springing and the fish are gathering up for their usual patterns. The redfish are bunching up and the sheepshead are stacked for their spawn. The speckled trout are moving in the rite direction as the shrimp are starting to show face in a big way.

As the temps start to rise in the south, so do the water temps. The magic number here in Shell Beach, Louisiana, is 58 degrees. We catch trout and reds in 40 degree and above, but for that harder fighting and faster action, 58 degrees and up is what im looking for. They come oout of the deeper bays and holes after day break and hit the shallow flats to warm up from the night temps. We dont have live shrimo at the marinas rite now, but when you put a matrix shad swim bait under a cork, it's hard to resist.

After the freeze down here in Shell Beach, Louisiana, i had to go out and search for a fish kill in our area. I waited about a week after the freeze and went out for a boat ride. I didn't see much of anything to worry about down here. I didn't personally see any dead fish from Biloxi marsh down to delicroix. (Lucky us) I'm expecting another good year like we had last year. The water temps are on the rise now (around 64degs) as we speak. That will have the fish in a frenzy as the magic number in our area is 60 degrees. Call soon to reserve your dates!!

I had a last-minute cancelation, and i was already loaded and ready to go. The customers never showed up. Im assuming New Orleans got the best of them!! (Not the first time we've seen this when our customers stay in NOLA)Anyhoot, a couple of my other guides were still fishing so i went om a scouting mission to try some other grounds that we normally hit in the fall time. I left the dock late due to wasting time waiting on them, i started off in a normally shallow pond, but the tide was way above normal and i knew this pond hokd fish on a high tide like that. I had a catch 2000 twich bait tide on and droped the trolling motor to start working around this pond. I worked a few tidelines and hit a few good fish. Nothing to promising though. I moved to a different location and found some thick tidelines, with swift moving water. I noticed some shrimp popping out the water. Dropped the trolling motor and started to work. The fisb were hitting, but not like i thought they should be right here. I switched tackle and slowed my presentation down quite a bit.. THAT'S IT!! That was the rite move. I caught speckled trout pretty quick. Some solid trout at that. I hit a few different areas to catch and release since i had plenty of fish for myself and the family that night. The redfish in those spots were kinda speratic, but i really wasnt fucusing on them either. The ones on the table are just passerbys that hit while i was catching trout. Talk about a fun time. I was a part of a big group with 12 boats and 35 people. I had 3 people on my 26-foot BlueWave!! We left the dock just as the sun was coming up and caught an amazing sunrise on our way out! These guys said they were avid fishermen, so i tested the water. We started throwing straight topwater baits and tightlined soft plastics. We moved fairly quickly to start off, and it was so fun to watch them fish hit that topwater!! We hit a good handful 15/20 speckled trout until the bite slowed down on those baits. I switched. I noticed a good tideline forming just ahead of us, i switched everything over to live shrimp and soft plastics inder a cork while we trolled to the tideline. We got set up and dropped the minn kota raptors, and that was a wrapp. We were in their house and picking them off one at a time!! I had this customer call a whike back to book. His first question was, is there an age limit to fish with us. I told him, "Absolutely not!! I've taken customers that were 70 to 87, i believe was the oldest I've taken out. I work with every individual and with their own special needs as needed. After lodging with us, they woke up and walked acrossed the street where my 26ft bluewave was fully loaded and awaiting them to walk aboard! Just as the sun was cracing light, we took off into the abis. We got to our first spot with plenty of action, but they just couldnt get the grasp of speckled trout and hownto hook them and reel them in. The bite slowed down so we moved spots and again, they were there and hungry. I ended up switching hooks for them to treble hooks, then, thennnnn it was on. They were easy to deal with and very patient as i baited each hook and took each fish off for this beautiful couple. They had a blast with me. Love shrimp was the ticket today! The trout wasnted nothing to do with any artificial lures i tried to throw out.
