Took my three boys out with Captain Bubba on the “Shark Hunt”.  The shark fishing was a bit slow, but air temps were in the mid-90’s and water temps were around 89 degrees…maybe even a little hot for sharks. We watched other boats fishing for speckled trout, who were probably wiling to do anything to get out of the water themselves.

Captain Bubba was great! Interesting and friendly talk to and was great with the boys. The youngest (16) was talking about how he really wanted a hammerhead. Not likely, but not impossible either. We had a couple on the line, but only brought one in (fault of the boys, not the captain - you gotta maintain line tension). He put us on an 8 foot female scalloped hammerhead. It took all three of them twenty minutes to bring her in. What a great experience! Let her go so we can come back and fish again.

Can’t say enough about what a great experience we had with Salty Rods. Would highly recommend (as long as you have realistic expectations for what fishing is…there are no guarantees and every captain I’ve ever worked with is as eager, maybe more than you, to get something on your line).

If you’re looking for “guarantees”, I suggest high fence hunting instead.

We made the most of a tough bite. We were one of the few boats consistently catching fish. Morning started out slow but as the water got moving we tied into a few finetooth sharks, as that bite slowed we got a report of another bite, moved spots and finished the day off with a good sized eater blacktip. Captain and crew were very friendly and knowledgeable. The captian had a contract he gave me for shark jaw mounting and gave us a restaurant recommendation that needed up being the best food we ate all trip.

Salty Rods know their stuff.

My family and I came to Galveston for the week and we are glad we booked a fishing trip with Salty Rods! Our captain was knowledgeable, he was attentive to any need we may have had, and most of all he had a great sense of humor!! We will definitely book another trip on our next trip.

Bubba and Bob were amazing! They shared stories and experiences as well as their knowledge of the fish and fishing the gulf! They were fun and made sure they did everything in their power for us to catch fish! I highly recommend them!!
