Background
Arthur Jackson or "Jamie" has been fishing on Lake Toho since 1970. He used to come down from Maryland every year with his father, and they would fish with Captain Ed Chancy or one of his guides. After years repeating this tradition, Jamie was hooked on the idea of guiding and fishing for a living. At the age of 11, he made the decision to work for Captain Ed when he grew up, and he made it a reality at the age of 20. He purchased his own boat and moved to Florida to pursue his dream. After 6 years of guiding he became partners with Captain Ed, who became like a second father to him, teaching him all he knew about fishing. After many years of running the business together, Ed died of a heart attack while on the lake in 1998. Jamie continues to this day to run the business and guide on the lake.

July Lake Toho fishing report
July Lake Toho fishing report
Jul 6, 2021 Kissimmee
Itโ€™s been one of the best years of fishing weโ€™ve ever seen so far on Orlandoโ€™s Lake Toho. Never have I seen the lake as a whole fish so well. I mean thereโ€™s so many different areas you can catch fish in right now itโ€™s crazy. Usually with our team of guides we have to fish around each other in certain areas to keep people on good fish, but with the lake being absolutely on fire like it is right now, we are all spread out through the lake fishing different spots and slaying them all the same! Lake Toho is definitely the lake to be on right now. Why is it bass fishing so well? Because of all of the submerged grass in the lake. The Florida Wildlife Commission (FWC) has changed their management plan for the lake the last few years and it has produced tremendous results. Instead of spraying and killing off the hydrilla in the lake routinely like they used to do, they are leaving much larger amounts of it. The large amounts of hydrilla in the lake have led to increasing populations of bass. Each year the fishing has become better and better. With that being said much of the great fishing we are talking about can be found in the large amounts of hydrilla and eel grass spread throughout the lake from the north end to the south. Staying on the edges of the thicker hydrilla has been the key, but submerged hydrilla under the water can hold hidden groups of fish. Large holes in the hydrilla have held good groups of fish also. The other pattern thatโ€™s going on right now is running water. With all the rain weโ€™ve been getting since June all of the creeks running into the lake are flowing strong and have fish sitting in front of them. The locks that run out of the lake on the south end and the locks that run into the lake from East Lake Toho are both open right now and pulling water. Which has bass sitting around them also. The best artificial bite has been on speedworms and chatterbaits reeled through the grass, and flukes slowly switch in the grass. Jerkbaits and squarebill crankbaits have been working in the running water. But as always, live large golden shiners are what youโ€™re going to get the most your of your day with. Nowโ€™s the time to be on Lake Toho, some come be a part of the action! Bass wishes, Capt. AJ

April Lake Toho Fishing Report
April Lake Toho Fishing Report
Apr 19, 2021 Kissimmee
Finally its April, one of my favorite months to fish Lake Toho. The bass are aggressively feeding up after spawning in the winter and the weathers consistent. Which makes the bite very consistent also. And that is whatโ€™s going on right now on all of the offshore grass patches on the lake. Weโ€™re consistently catching good fish! Weโ€™re averaging around 20-30 fish on a 4-5 hour trip. Thereโ€™s so much offshore grass for these bass to get on right now, itโ€™s awesome, and it pretty much all has fish on it. Our guides are scattered all over the lake fishing all different patches of grass, and weโ€™re all catching fish. This is also one of the best times of year to fish artificials also and theyโ€™ve been biting a range of different lures. Flukes, swimjigs, speedworms, jerkbaits, chatterbaits, topwater spooks, and flipping have all been catching fish. Thatโ€™s whatโ€™s awesome about this time of year, you can catch fish on kind of whatever you want! Now as Iโ€™ve said above and many other times before, Lake Toho bass are offshore bass. They like to be offshore as much as possible. And right now theyโ€™ve got plenty of real estate to choose from with all the grass patches out there. Whether itโ€™s hydrilla, eel grass, or pepper grass, theirs fish on it. Locating one of these grass patches isnโ€™t hard right now, and once you find one, stick to the outside edges of it. Thatโ€™s where a majority of the fish are right now. Swimjigs, speedworms, and chatterbaits have been working well just reeled slowly across the tops of the grass. While flukes have been working best by dead sticking them and letting them sink all the way to the bottom, then twitch it a couple of times back up and repeat, letting it sink back down again. The jerkbait has been working best moved more quickly with harder jerks and a short pause in-between. But as always large golden wild shiners have been working the best and youโ€™ll definitely get the most your of your day with them! This is a awesome time to be fishing Lake Toho right now so whether youโ€™re here on vacation or live here, get out and go fishing! Bass wishes, Captain AJ

Lake Toho Winter Forecast
Lake Toho Winter Forecast
Jan 15, 2021 Kissimmee
Lake Tohoโ€™s bass fishing is absolutely insane right now. Itโ€™s the HOTTEST lake in Florida. With no shortage of hydrilla and other types of submerged grasses all throughout the lake you can literally hammer them from one end to the other. 40+ fish days are very common with 20+ fish days being a tough day. Even after cold fronts! And these arenโ€™t little fish either. 3 pounds has been the average size! Weโ€™ve already caught a 12.3 pounder and 11.2 pounder so far this year, along with several 9+ pounders and plenty 7-8 pounders. As long as the FWC continues to manage the lake like they have been and leave plenty of grass, this kind of fishing will continue for YEARS to come. At the time of writing this article (mid January) the bass have not moved up shallow yet. They are still all offshore. Only small buck bass are up shallow right now, it wonโ€™t be until February and March that the females move up to spawn. So ALL of our fishing has been focused on the giant fields of offshore grass on the lake. Many of these grass patches hold good groups of fish. For artificials moving baits in the first few hours of the morning and last couple in the evening have been working such as a swimjig and spinnerbait. But once that sun really gets up most days you have to switch to something slower and more finessey. Jerkbaits have been working really well ALL day on the submerged grass, especially if you have wind. Weightless Flukes fished slowly near the bottom on submerged grass, dead-sticked in holes, or around the edge of thicker grass has been a great technique. And flipping the thicker grass has produced some big fish also. But as always, shiners have been the ticket if you want to get the most out of your day. They are keyed in on them really well right now and some days they just wonโ€™t stop eating them! I mean really, weโ€™ve been sitting in some spots some days and running through as many shiners as you want to get. Just one after another. With the right weather Iโ€™ve had several 70+ fish days on shiners so far this year. With how things have been going these last few months, it looks like itโ€™s going to be one heck of a year for bass fishing Lake Toho. And I canโ€™t explain how excited I am! Bass wishes, Capt. AJ

Now Iโ€™ve had some amazing days bass fishing lake Toho catching both big numbers and big bass. But never have I seen this lake produce both of these so consistently. I mean even after cold fronts (which usually slow down the fishing) the fishing remains unchanged and even has gotten better! 30 fish days with a 7 pounder have become the average with 40-70 fish days and multiple fish over 7 pounds becoming very common! Thereโ€™s only one word for it, stupid. It really is stupid how good the fishing is right now on Lake Toho. And itโ€™s a testament to how the FWC is managing the lake. Youโ€™ve kept hearing me talk about how theyโ€™re managing the lake the best Iโ€™ve ever seen over the last year and this is the fruits of there labor. Or should I say non-labor, because itโ€™s from them doing less spraying and killing of the grasses in the lake is why this already world famous lake has become even better. Now as I said, theyโ€™re not spraying or doing any killing of grasses on the lake right now which means thereโ€™s lots of hydrilla. More hydrilla than Iโ€™ve ever seen on the lake, and more eel grass than Iโ€™ve ever seen. Which is a sign of good water quality. And thatโ€™s where ALL of this fishing is centered around right now. Bass have still not yet begun to move up shallower to spawn (however they will soon) so they are all still offshore. All you need to do is stick to the hydrilla and eel grass of the lake throwing speedworms (either worming on the bottom or reeling, but worming has been working well), jerkbaits, chatterbaits (if the waters warm), or dead-sticking flukes (if the waters cold). And simply if youโ€™re not getting bit on one patch of grass just move to another. While the artificial bite has been good, shiners as always are the best option for getting the most out of your day. And if youโ€™re on the right spot you can put a bunch in the boat real quick. The fishing on Toho is the best and most consistent Iโ€™ve ever seen it. And if the FWC keeps doing what theyโ€™re doing, itโ€™s only going to get better throughout the winter. Bass wishes, Capt. AJ

October Lake Toho fishing report
October Lake Toho fishing report
Oct 8, 2020 Kissimmee
The fall bite has started and the bass are biting everywhere! The recent cold fronts weโ€™ve had have really kicked the fish into overdrive and theyโ€™ve started gorging themselves for the winter. Lake Toho is loaded with hydrilla and just about every patch of it holds good fish. So much so that Iโ€™m having trouble deciding where to start each day, because it doesnโ€™t seem to matter where you go, as long as youโ€™re around good hydrilla youโ€™re going to catch good fish. The bite has been so good in some of these spots that Iโ€™ve had quite a few days in the last two weeks where we caught 50+ fish! On both shiners and artificials. Now thatโ€™s just insane. I had one day where we caught 62 anchored up in just ONE SINGLE SPOT. So where are the bass at? And what are they biting? Well like I said before, hydrilla. Mainly offshore hydrilla but some up shallower has been producing also. As long as youโ€™re around hydrilla thatโ€™s deeper, thereโ€™s fish in it. I guarantee you. And catching them hasnโ€™t been all that difficult either. Shiners of course are the #1 option and your best bet for catching the most and biggest bass that Lake Toho has to offer. Especially if you only have one day out there. But as far as artificials go, the jerkbait has become king again. I can sit in certain areas with the right weather and literally just catch one after another, after another on it. All ranging from 1-7 pounds. Between the jerkbait, chatterbait, swimjig, and good old fashioned worm, I can go through an area and literally feel like Iโ€™m catching EVERY SINGLE fish that is there. If you want to learn how I use a jerkbait Iโ€™ve got an excellent video of it on my YouTube channel that you can watch here The bass fishing on Lake Toho just seems to be getting better and better as the months go by and we inch closer to winter. Whether you live nearby or would like to book a trip down here with us at AJโ€™s Bass Guides, Iโ€™d say nowโ€™s the time to get out and fish this hot spot of a lake. Bass wishes, Capt. AJ

September Lake Toho fishing report
September Lake Toho fishing report
Sep 1, 2020 Kissimmee
The bass fishing on Lake Toho has been more consistently good than I have ever seen it! And itโ€™s because of one thing, the FWC. I have to say the FWC has done a great job of managing these lakes and listening to us these last couple of years and we are all able to pick the fruits of their labor now. With the reduction of spraying and killing the hydrilla it has allowed for massive populations of fish to concentrate in it. Which in turn has lead to the consistent fishing. Theyโ€™re spraying it the way they should be now. Theyโ€™re letting it grow and only killing off what impedes travel. With so much grass left in the lake, if you have the right weather (a cloudy day with a decent wind) itโ€™s almost like you can catch them off of anything right now. As youโ€™ve probably already figured out, the majority of the bass are on hydrilla right now. Their are also good populations of fish on the eel grass around the edges of the lake which the fish will use just like the hydrilla. Itโ€™s also worth mentioning that the eel grass populations are as high as Iโ€™ve seen them. The whole lake is just in great shape. The only other cover worth fishing right now are the brush piles. There are still good groups of fish on them. The shell bed and running water areas have slowed up and the fish are not using them as they once were. As I said earlier when you have the right weather itโ€™s as if you can catch them off of anything you want! But for the most part speedworms, chatterbaits, and swimjigs have been working the best for moving baits and worms and creature baits have been working well both in the hydrilla and brush piles just slowly dragging them through. You can also get on a good flipping bite later in the day on some of the hydrilla mats coming out from the Kissimmee grass line and even on some of the Kissimmee grass points coming out into the lake. The lake is fishing really well right now and as long as you have a decent wind putting a 20 pound bag of fish in the boat has been nearly everyday! Whether youโ€™d like to use artificials or shiners, a day on lake Toho is going to be a good one. Bass wishes, Capt. AJ
