2022 Spring Fishing Fort Lauderdale - Th
2022 Spring Fishing Fort Lauderdale - Th
May 19, 2022 Fort Lauderdale
Spring is an amazing time to fish Fort Lauderdale, we have calmer conditions than winter. Various species of Fish to Target and way more sunshine in the Spring months in Fort Lauderdale. Being born and raised in Fort Lauderdale as a fisherman, we count on our seasonal change for different species of fish to target. In Spring we will catch our winter time sailfish, mixed with spring Tuna, Kingfish, Mahi, and Sharks. Not knowing exactly which fish will bite the hook next is an amazing feeling. People ask me what fish are biting in May and I tend to chuckle, itโ€™s hard to tell whatโ€™s going to hit the line next and itโ€™s exciting. We like to kite fish in May, thatโ€™s the most productive style of fishing in the spring. Bait of course is going to be goggle eyes and sardines, with these two in spring is hard to not get a bite. We enjoy using all light tackle on The Good Hit boats and some of these fish will take you for a ride. I would suggest the 3/4 day in the morning or afternoon, for the best success rate. One of my favorite fish to target is Black-fin Tuna and we only catch the big ones in spring. They tend to bite early in the morning and later in the afternoon, I personally like the late afternoon, other captains might say otherwise. We havenโ€™t got our Mahi Mahi gear out yet but we are starting to get ready. We get groups that ask if itโ€™s time to head offshore and start the hunt for the Mahi, and I like to wait till the middle of June. Donโ€™t forget to check out all of our boats to get the exact one you prefer . We now have Good Hit, Good Hit 2.0 and Good Hit 3.0 These boats have just been tricked out with the best Motors/ equipment/ tackle and sonar Money can buy. Every one of these boats have their own character so donโ€™t forget to check them all out before making a final selection. I hope you guys like my report and message me for any questions. January 2022 - Swordfish and Sailfish
January 2022 - Swordfish and Sailfish
Jan 6, 2022 Fort Lauderdale
January 20222 In January we have been targeting Sailfish and Swordfish. We Have normally been sticking to the kite fishing methods for the Sailfish. Getting Hooked Up on Goggle Eyes, Pilchards, Threadfin Herring, and ballyhoos. Using The Kite to target fish is the most exciting tactic of all. Watching your baitfish on the surface while looking for s large Pelagic Game fish stalking its Prey. Sometimes the fish even jump1-20 ft in the water to catch its prey. The main fish that we are targeting is Sailfish, but no the only fish we can catch while fishing for these beauties. The fish that we catch while targeting sailfish can be โ€“ King Mackerel, Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Wahoo and Sharks. There is no telling what will bite the hook while kite fishing. Perfect example a few years ago while kite fishing in Fort Lauderdale on a local Shipwreck. I hooked and landed a 50lb Swordfish, which is extremely rare and unheard of in these waters. Like I always say-โ€œif its going to happen, Its going to happen out there. Speaking of Swordfish December and January have been the most productive month that I have been in the past decade. Friends and Other fisherman catching above average fish on the daily basis. The tactics that we normally use is Daytime Sword fishing, using electric reels to drop to the bottom in 1650ft-1900ft of water. We normally use 10-12lbs of lead to hit the bottom, using the electric reels are a must when fishing this deep with this much lead, you also can not forget the 3.5 kts of current that is in the gulf stream as well. Some people think that this fishery is doing so well because of El Ninyo, but I am just going to say that it has been great season. The second way we have been targeting the Swordfish is Nighttime Sword fishing. We tend to target these fish in about 1000Ft-1350ft of water, when the sun goes down these fish tend to gravitate towards the surface. Fishing in the **hidden content**ft range of depth to target these Swords. I also like to light up the water to target these guys. I like to use glow sticks, LP lights, Strobe lights and blinkers. Experimenting with these lights can be half the fun and they work., trust me. (no light, no bite) and old famous captain once told me while fishing for the Gladiator of the sea at night.
