Best and friendly crew and captain. Took time to explain everything and made exertion comfortable and really fun. Would do it again.

Met Capt Jim at 6.15a. The boat has changed, older than expected, but that’s OK if we can get on some fish.  Went to catch bait for 30-45 minutes.  Had one strike all day and did not connect.  The trip was not successful, but beautiful day and scenery in Kona!
About a week later was looking at Go Get Em Facebook and website and am TOTALLY SHOCKED they are posting caught fish pictures from another boat - not the Kona Dice. My opinion of this Charter Service is very low.  Beware of the Fishing Bait and Switch

As a business owner myself I hate leaving negative reviews. If I feel I was deceived your going to get one starred regardless. This trip started out great and the captain and crew were friendly and personable. Let me now explain the problem I have that ruined this whole experience. During the trip we were told that Blue Marlin wasn’t a good eating fish. I totally believe this was done on purpose so we didn’t ask for any fish initially. My brother did get a 180 lb blue. My wife also asked if we were fishing for anything else and one of the deckhands said we were fishing for everything. I don’t believe this was the case looking back at the lure selection. I think we fished for Marlin that’s it. The only other thing we fished for was tuna to use as bait. When we got back in we weren’t offered anything including the tuna we caught they kept those also. When we left I started doing a looking at other reviews and it seems to be a common practice amongst charter captains telling people Marlin aren’t good eating. They turn around and sell your fish to the fish market. In he advertisement it says nothing other that you can keep up to 50 lbs of fish you catch. It says nothing that any one fish over 50 lbs you get nothing. That’s exactly what happened that is deception. When we called Captain Jim to see if we could get any of that Marlin he said I can’t cut it up as then we don’t get full price at market. He told us he was going back out on Wednesday and if he caught something else he would give us a couple slabs. He also told us he would talk to fish market guys and see if we could get a piece of fish off that Marlins tail. The tail really! Long story short we never heard from him again which I told my brother at that time he’s never calling back and I was right. The cost of trip $750 including $150 tip and we didn’t get anything and on top he sold that Marlin for who knows how much. We ended up going to Costco to buy some fish which is pretty sad. Costco selling Marlin steaks for $12.99 lb for a fish that the crew claims sucks to eat. I totally believe this is done on purpose. I wouldn’t have a problem with the whole scenario if the advertisement was black and white if what your going to get or get nothing. Never would I book with them again. If I ever went back I would make sure any charter I booked with was very upfront in black an white exactly the terms of what you will receive if you catch something.

The fishing trip turned out to be just a 6 hour boat ride. The ocean and Hawaii coastline were beautiful, but we caught no fish (with the exception of a baby tuna). The captain told us he was going for a blue Marlin and some other big species. He never asked us what we would prefer to catch. He didn’t have any other setup except trolling for “big fish”. The only fish we caught, the baby tuna, was caught on a small rod.  I wish, we continued doing just that. The captain wasn’t happy with catching just a “small fish in every 25 minutes” (his own words) and kept telling us “he was going for quality, not quantity”. Well, we ended up with neither one.
I understand, nobody can guarantee you catch a fish. However, every fishing charter I ever hired, would try different approaches when fishing wouldn’t yield results. As I mentioned at the beginning, this captain tried nothing else, just kept trolling the entire time.
If I am ever back to Hawaii, I will definitely hire a different charter.
