Hard to beat Mahi fishing in Costa Rica when they start to show up in numbers. We have a five fish limit and it doesn’t suck when you have to release or move away from swarms of 20-30 pounders to get find the big boys. The next couple months are going to be on fire. The sailfish bite has been good and we are seeing some bigger fish. Marlin are becoming a bit more regular as the mahi bite is improving. If you can find a tree or some sort of debris holding mahi, you have a very good shot at seeing multiple marlin bites and it doesn’t hurt to feed yourself while doing so. We’re defiantly feeling the affects of rainy season, but fortunately we can move around it the vast majority of days. Well me did set the world on fire in terms of numbers today, but we did when it comes to memories. Rob and his joined us to try their hand at some offshore fishing with dreams of seeing a marlin. It may just be chance, but I’ll credit it to their attitude. These guys loved every part of just being on the water together and it paid off. We released one marlin and one sail after jumping off a big mahi before turning back in. Fortunately I have an opening Friday and they jumped at the opportunity go back out to check that mahi off their bucket list with the daughter in tow this time. It’s hard to beat having folks on the boat that never stop knowing the bite is coming … ”any moment now”. Released five sails and kept a couple Yellowfin in the 25# range for Eduardo. He’s fished with us several times, but this was the first boys trip with his son, brother, and father. These guys are great to have on the boat and certainly keep it interesting. Released 8 on 14 bites and handful of mahi. After the sails we were on a mission for a 35# mahi. I’m not sure how that number came to be, but we picked thru a bunch of smaller fish before finishing with a double and calling it a day.
