Let’s go fishin’ w Fluffy!  Captain Dahl runs a wonderful operation, one that my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed in late June.  Everything was low stress, comfortable and tidy.  Our late afternoon - early evening trip started with a friendly, warm-hearted Wisconsin greeting at the dock, it was clear we were in great hands.  Didn’t have to run far to the fishing grounds, I suspect we were “lines in” in about 20 minutes.

We have fished across the US for many different species… some great captains struck out, and flip side, some dipshits filled the box early… if you can appreciate fishing as fishing (as opposed to “catching”) then Captain Dahl can provide an enviable balance that can be fun under almost circumstances.  Both the spouse and I had our first King on ice in first 90 minutes, sharing a lot of laughs with Captain and asking a lot of questions.

Every boat in these parts reportedly has there own unique way of doing things.  Fluffy was happy to share his with you if were inquisitive enough to ask.  We had plenty of time for learning and I didn’t miss my chance to pepper the amiable angler.  He was happy to share his knowledge and insight, it’s clear that he is as much an artist as a fishing scientist. Some things happen for a reason, others just “because”, Captain Dahl respected this reality and didn’t try to sweep all the chips into his fishing acumen stack.

The wife got into a Varsity sized King that just about spooled her, and then he saved himself for the spawn with a quick turn and run at the boat.  Sorry she didn’t get the pool winner but the drag running backwards for as long as they were attached, ah, the greatest sound in sports!  Had they stayed buttoned up, I’m confident she could have landed him but not without a weeklong soreness echoing in her shoulders.  “Good fish” as they say…

Fluffy was a fine coach and teacher for my spouse and I can easily see him working with a family and the kids.  With all due respect to ALL charter fishing boats I’ve encountered, I would limit my group to four people; for comfort, for smaller “class size”, 50% more “fish on” chances and more interaction with the Crew.  This is not a reflection of Dahl Charters, just “special event” fishing in general… more is sadly not merrier.

Came time for us to head in, and we all had smiles on our faces.  Captain started to clear first of nine lines we were pulling, and I stepped into opposite corner just in case I could help.  Unbeknownst to me, the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce* had arranged one last scream of the reel for me, as the third of our night Kings hit the spoon and headed East.  It was a fine fight, lasted about 15 minutes… which was perfect because the Captain had 15 minutes worth of line clearing and deck tidying that kept us both occupied.

Fish cleaning is included so bring a decent size cooler… a happy predicament for a gabby fisherman is “more fish than cooler space” and we luckily crossed that threshold.

My wife and I had such an awesome time fishing with Captain Mike this weekend! The day started a little slow, but Mike tried anything and everything to get us on to the fish, and it eventually paid off big time! Mike is a really knowledgeable and friendly captain and was super helpful when we had to reschedule a day later due to weather. Highly recommend booking a charter with Captain Mike and Dahl Charters!

Mike was a terrific captain today.  Lake was a bit rough and Mike was willing to let us cancel and get our money back if we were uncomfortable about it.  We decided to go ahead and Mike worked really hard to get us on fish.  He kept trying different rigs, set-ups and lures until he finally found the right combo for the conditions.  We caught some nice Cohos and Mike filleted them quickly for us.

Captain Fluffy worked with us, changing time that we left in the morning for more favorable weather instead of just cancelling. Let us know the weather and fishing conditions, then let us decide if we wanted to go or not. Good thing we went, we had a good time fishing.
