Went out with a group of 4 and we caught a few good size reds. Captain Joaquin worked his tail off for those fish though. And had a great day on the water. And those redfish put up a fight but we still won out. My 2nd time out with Captain Joaquin and I’m definitely going with him again next time.

We went out with Captain Joaquin Pena for an am trip with my wife and kids.  There was a storm brewing so we headed back to the docks after about 10 minutes as the captain didn’t want my wife and kids to get soaked. We then headed out for an awesome day of fishing.  He put us on fish all days. We brought back 7 redfish and 3 black drum.  We lost a few others and caught some other species as well.  Joaquin is also a very patient captain and has a huge passion for the sport.  At the end of the da everyone left with a smile on their face. That’s the main thing!!  Definitely fishing with him again!

Captain Pena and his captain in training Mark were great to spend the day with.  They are both very professional and took care of everything we needed.  We quickly caught our limits on Redfish and moved on to catch Black Drums.  They were both very knowledgeable of where the fish were at and how to catch them.  After fishing, our fish were cleaned and packed up for us.  We also had the attached restaurant cook up a couple of the filets and had lunch with Captain Pena and Mark.  I would highly recommend these guys to take you out on a great trip.  I look forward to next time.

My son and I are total novices as far as fishing is concerned. I didn’t grow up with the hobby but want to get my son into it, so we’re both learning as we go. I made Cpt. Joaquin aware of this and told him we’re in his hands and all ears for the sake of learning.

On our trip into the bay, we encountered some smaller jumping fish erratically leaping out of the water, so we stopped to investigate. Cpt. Joaquin put us onto 2x jack crevalle within 10 minutes of leaving the marina. We fought them onto the boat, took our photos, tossed them back, then made our way to the fishing grounds.

One thing to emphasize, Cpt. Joaquin is a believer in letting children do things themselves, and this is important because they can walk away from the experience with the pride of accomplishing their catches on their own. I completely agree with him on this philosophy and I absolutely loved watching my kid do things on his own.

The rest of our day was successful. Cpt. Joaquin put us on top of black drum and we ended the day with 8, more than enough for dinner and donating to some extended family upon returning home.

We had a great time with Cpt. Joaquin. He made us feel comfortable, did not judge our skill levels, and helped us with our goal — bringing fish home. I’d charter a trip again with him upon our return to the island, no questions asked.

Joaquin IS the best guide in South Texas. We went out with 2 adults and 2 kids all with no saltwater fishing experience. He took the time to explain everything, and within minutes, we were all catching fish like pros. He was patient with the kids, and they had a blast! Unfortunately, our trip was cut short when I got a little overheated, but Joaquin took excellent care of me and made sure my safety was a top priority. He even called me later that day to make sure I was doing good. Even though our trip was cut short, we still caught more fish than most captains catch all day…Seriously…we had several other charters following us around like flies. Book Joaquin…you won’t be disappointed!
