Four of us took the noon-to-6pm cruise with Cap’n Vince (only one of us being an experienced fisherman).  We sailed out beyond the break for the first couple of hours in search of “ribbon fish” (which were plentiful).  After setting the “Stick Em” to drift, the Cap’n would tend to the tackle, bait the hooks and cast the lines.  He tried to get all 4 lines in the water so each of us would have a rod to mind, but the fish were hungry.  We caught over a dozen ribbon fish, with each of us claiming about an equal share of the “glory.”

Then, we moved into the shallows of the sound and anchored down to fish for Red Drum.  Again, especially early on, we were getting bites left and right.  The largest drum we caught was 28 inches, so not too shabby.  We also inadvertently hooked a stingray, which was something us northerners didn’t expect to see.

Finally, we moved to another area further north to try to snag some trout, but had no success on that front (though we caught 3 more stingray…or maybe it was the same stingray…?).  On the way back to the marina, we caught sight of some dolphins, so the Cap’n slowed up and brought us fairly close to them for a few minutes - certainly a bonus we hadn’t anticipated.

The boat was a little bit of a tight fit for the four of us plus the Cap’n.  The nose is the most spacious part, but most of the fishing was done astern and to starboard.  Cap’n Vince was adept at baiting the hooks and removing the fish from the hooks, and also knew where the good fishing was.  He gave helpful tips on how to reel in (and how NOT to reel in) the catches, explained early on that trout fishing might be difficult in the breezier conditions, which offset the disappointment in not getting any later on, and he managed to navigate the waters in a way that only got us a little bit wet.

It was a good time for three generations of our family to bond and experience the Great Outdoors.

Booked a 1/2 day ocean trip with Captain Vinny. He was very interested in understanding what type of fishing and fish I was hoping to catch (I have a fair amount of fishing experience) and he worked hard to make it happen. First stop was an offshore artificial reef. Vinny’s boat is equipped with the latest technology to put you on the fish and it certainly did not disappoint. We were on fish from the first drop of the line, catching our limit of Black sea bass. Fishing was so hot, we were releasing many fish that would have been legal size to keep, only keeping the big ones. As soon as fishing slowed a bit, Vinny moved the boat and put us right back on them. All the while, he was working incredibly hard to make sure the lines were baited, lures were perfect, absolutely everything to ensure his customers had a blast. We then made a stop inshore for some black drum, where we were able to catch a few. Vinny even offered to take great pictures of the catch. Just a great guy and a great captain, really fun to talk to, hang out with, and fish with. Absolutely booking more trips on the Stick Em.

Fished with my four nephews ages 9 through 16. Captain Vinny did a great job keeping everyone fishing despite having 5 people on board. Big Blues were hitting and the entire group caught fish and had a blast. Highly recommend a charter with Captain Vinny.

Capt. Vinnie was delightful to have as our guide! Always positive, even when the bite was slow. He communicated openly and honestly as to what was, or was not, happening at any given moment. Very good at instructing the different methods of fishing. We boated nearly 20 fish during our trip and just missed a Citation for a sea trout by 1”!! We will be getting back with Captain Vinny on our next trip to the OBX!!

We had a great day fishing with Captain Vinny.  There weren’t a lot of fish biting but Captain Vinny did his best to give us a fishing experience with all different types of fishing techniques.  He went out of his way to make sure we had a great day on the water!  He even spotted a pod of dolphins and took us on a detour to watch them.  We would definitely book another charter trip with Stick Em Fishing again!
