The spring striper season is a highly anticipated time for many anglers this time of the year. As the water begins to warm up, stripers, also known as rockfish or striped bass, become more active and start to move into shallow waters to feed. This is an excellent opportunity for anglers to target these hard-fighting fish and enjoy some great fishing. Here are some tips for a successful spring striper fishing trip: Location: Look for stripers in areas with baitfish, such as near river mouths or inlets. Keep an eye out for birds diving and feeding, as this can also indicate the presence of stripers below. Fish Sandbars and drops off, work different tides and moon phases Tackle: We Use a light action rods with a fast action and a good reel with a high gear ratio to handle the fast runs of stripers. I like mono as a main line nothing heavier than 30lbs and fluorocarbon line is a good choice for leader material. Lures: Topwater lures, such as poppers or stickbaits, are great for catching the attention of stripers on the surface. Jigs and soft plastics fished near the bottom can also be effective. Trolling is always a top producer. Techniques: Vary your retrieve speed and pay attention to how the fish are reacting. Stripers can be aggressive feeders, so don't be afraid to try different retrieves to see what they respond to best. Respect the Fish: Stripers are an important species in many coastal ecosystems and are also highly prized by anglers. Practice catch-and-release to help ensure the health of the population for future generations. By following these tips and being prepared for the spring striper season, you'll be well on your way to a successful and enjoyable fishing trip. Some wind gusting to 20kts and a calming sea gave us the best opportunity to troll and cracked some stripers on a 9in Mojo parachute rig (Rock Candy) and when that bite switched we went to diamond jigging in 35-45 ft with bringing it almost to to the top for large blues- biggest I have seen in some time for central sound. The bass bite is improving on the reefs and rips. We will be out this week live lining bunker since the amount of bunker is insane. New York opens for Seabass June 23rd see you on the other side! Our trips have been successful getting keeper Seabass into the boat. They have been aggressively hitting hio-lo, Spro jigs, slow pitch jigs and diamond jigs. Fluke have been tough as we are not in the western part of the sound as the water continues to warn and more bait moves in we should do well. Larger blues and migrator stripers are moving into the deep water reefs and rips. Most success is coming from live lining bunker, 3 way bucktail and diamond jigging is getting a ton of schoolie shorts. Tight lines. Capt Joe

Well the season is getting into full swing. As the water temp rises and more bait start to show up the reefs, wrecks and structure will hold fish. The CT river has been a great spring platform for schoolies and migrators and now blues are showing and hitting top water. Fluke will start to fill in as our water temps come close to hitting the magic temps of mid 50's. Our go to has been a 3 way buck tail either white or yellow with otter tails. Diamond jigs for Bass when the tide is slowing. Our gold standard for Sea Bass and fluke are spro jigs/ digger jigs/ Ball jigs with Tsunami teasers with gulp and squid. Like all good things- they must come to an end! Our 2021 Fishing season is in the books and we ended it on some high notes. We fought some wind and weather but when we prevailed and could anchor we had some great tog trips. Asian and green crabs where the ticket and when you could get hermit well you hit the larger togs! Tog fishing has to be done with finesse... get past the grinding....wait for a tug or two and lift the rod. Be it a short or a bruiser- you'll have a fish on! We will be booking trips for the 2022 season. Until 2022 Tight lines! Capt Joe
