- Capt. Chris Speed has fished Vancouver area waters for over 40yrs. Creating BuiltforSpeed Charters in 1995 & has guided for over 30yrs in his hometown of Vancouver. Angling for Pacific Salmon thru all seasons in local waters. This gives a true understanding of where to fish 365 days a year. I work in the marine industry, advise many anglers with new vessels that need to be tuned & rigged to fish correctly in our environment. I pro staff & represent Scotty Fishing & Marine products supporting all who use the product. Planning each fishing charter & teaching others the finer points of saltwater Salmon fishing is the true passion. Along with providing a safe & comfortable, informative fishing experience. - Techniques
- The Vancouver saltwater fishing method has not changed a lot in the last number of years. The most significant change came from the use of the downrigger in the late 1980's. Before that one fished with live herring at idle or anchor in one location until the Salmon bite turned on or passed thru your special location. Downrigger trolling with lures/bait/spoons/herring strip allowed one to cover ground/distance/depth with precision. This change increased productivity for all Salmon species. Patterns & history log books, with location & gear choice are the keys for repeated success. Chinook, Coho, Sockeye, Pinks, Chum require special attention & tackle. Targeting Chinook in locations that are not only scenic but technical in the way you approach & fish them is a great challenge. In Vancouver variety makes our Salmon fishery unique, productive & fickle. The fish change on a few indicators & one must dial in to be consistent. Each outing requires thought, planning & effort.
