Captain Phillip took me and my 11 year old son out and we had a blast. I realize there are no guarantees to catch, but Capt Phillip put us on the fish from the moment we left the dock.  The boat was nice and in very good shape. Although neither me or my son get seasick, it was a very smooth ride, despite a bit of chop while we were out.  Capt Phillip facilitated a great experience by doing all the tough work from start to finish and was great company to share a day fishing with. Would recommend to anyone looking for a fun fishing trip. Definitely family friendly. Will use 850 again if we return to the area.

This was our very first fishing charter, and it far exceeded our expectations! My wife, our 13-year-old son, and I booked a half-day outing with Captain Phillip—and it was an absolute blast. As complete novices, we really appreciated how laid-back, patient, and knowledgeable Captain Phillip was. He made us feel comfortable right away, and the whole trip was relaxed, fun, and incredibly memorable.

The boat was clean, spacious, and well-equipped, and we were thrilled to catch several nice fish throughout the trip. Our four-hour trip flew by, and honestly, our only regret was not booking a full day. That said, the half-day turned out to be perfect for us. We finished the trip energized and wanting more—not exhausted and ready to be done. It was a great balance, especially for beginners.

We can’t wait to go again and would 100% recommend this experience to anyone, especially families or first-timers.

Can’t thank Captain Philip enough for helping make our fishing trip a success! We had originally booked our trip out on Thursday afternoon, but rescheduled because seas were super rough due to high winds. Come Friday, it was still pretty rough but a little better. He reached out because he didn’t know how experienced we were.. long story short my bunch was ready to go out, but me, I had decided to stay in because I didn’t want to ruin everyone’s trip out. I called and let him know that we were still planning to go out but minus one, because I have never been out too far and was nervous. It wasn’t but a few minutes later he called back and had worked some stuff out so that we could all go the next day!

We set out for an early morning-6 hour Captain’s Choice Deep Sea trip. From start to finish Captain Philip had us on fish! We caught king mackerels right away, bonitos, and snagged a few snappers. He worked hard making sure all 5 of our lines stayed baited and we were catching! Thanks again Captain Philip for a great trip!

We did end up getting caught in a storm and had to rush back to land, which definitely didn’t help my fear of being stranded in the ocean 😅—but Captain Phillip handled it like a pro and got us back safely. We made memories we’ll never forget and checked something big off our list. Highly recommend! We will definitely book again with them.

Captain Phillip was simply amazing. Despite us being pretty inexperienced, he was never impatient—not once. He took the time before we ever left the dock to ask thoughtful questions about what kind of fishing we were hoping to do. Once we got underway, he walked us through all the options, explained where we’d go and why, and laid out different plans for finding specific types of fish. This was a five-hour afternoon trip, but it felt like a full day in the best way possible.

We brought our two kids—13 and 8—and I can’t stress this enough: Captain Phillip treated them like they were his own. He quickly learned their names, explained all the gear, talked through the different types of fish we might see, and showed them exactly how to use the equipment. He constantly gave positive, encouraging feedback, kept us in the loop on what he was seeing on the fish finder, and related everything back to his experience so we could understand it. We moved to multiple different spots to find the best places where the fish are biting. This isn’t a company that takes you out for a boat trip, circles around, and then says, sorry, guess they aren’t biting today.

We didn’t just catch fish. We made unforgettable lifelong memories. The kind of memories that our kids will talk about the rest of their lives. This was the family trip of a lifetime, and I am so incredibly thankful to Captain Phillip and 850 Charters for an unforgettable experience.

As for the catch: we landed a mix of Spanish Mackerel, Vermilion Snapper, Red Snapper, Triggerfish, Ruby Red Lips/Grunt, and even a Cobia. Red Snapper were out of season, and most of the others were under size limits, so we only kept the Mackerel. But not once were we disappointed. Captain Phillip explained the limits clearly and patiently, especially to the kids, so they understood why those rules exist and how they protect our fisheries. It turned a “throw it back” moment into a learning experience and it was exciting every time we caught something to see if we had a keeper.

Captain Phillip and 850 Charters are the real deal. Whether you’re a family with kids or a seasoned angler, they’ll get you on the fish—and they’ll do it with energy, knowledge, and heart. I’ve been on other charters. Nothing compares. We had FUN the entire time.

Captain Phillip checked on everyone throughout the day, especially with the seas being a bit rough at times. He made sure we were having fun, feeling good, and ready to try for something new if we wanted to. He baited hooks, helped the kids get a fish on the line, talked us through landing fish, and never once got frustrated—not even when we lost bait or tangled lines.

I’ve been out with other Charters. This was different. It was such a wonderful experience that it created memories we’ll have for forever. If you’re looking, stop. You’ve found the right company. You’ve found the right captain. After we got back, we went to dinner at the Back Porch, and all we could do was talk about the trip. We were still on Cloud 9. 10/10 rating. No question.
