Captain Phillip was simply amazing. Despite us being pretty inexperienced, he was never impatient—not once. He took the time before we ever left the dock to ask thoughtful questions about what kind of fishing we were hoping to do. Once we got underway, he walked us through all the options, explained where we'd go and why, and laid out different plans for finding specific types of fish. This was a five-hour afternoon trip, but it felt like a full day in the best way possible. We brought our two kids—13 and 8—and I can't stress this enough: Captain Phillip treated them like they were his own. He quickly learned their names, explained all the gear, talked through the different types of fish we might see, and showed them exactly how to use the equipment. He constantly gave positive, encouraging feedback, kept us in the loop on what he was seeing on the fish finder, and related everything back to his experience so we could understand it. We moved to multiple different spots to find the best places where the fish are biting. This isn't a company that takes you out for a boat trip, circles around, and then says, sorry, guess they aren't biting today. We didn’t just catch fish. We made unforgettable lifelong memories. The kind of memories that our kids will talk about the rest of their lives. This was the family trip of a lifetime, and I am so incredibly thankful to Captain Phillip and 850 Charters for an unforgettable experience. As for the catch: we landed a mix of Spanish Mackerel, Vermilion Snapper, Red Snapper, Triggerfish, Ruby Red Lips/Grunt, and even a Cobia. Red Snapper were out of season, and most of the others were under size limits, so we only kept the Mackerel. But not once were we disappointed. Captain Phillip explained the limits clearly and patiently, especially to the kids, so they understood why those rules exist and how they protect our fisheries. It turned a “throw it back” moment into a learning experience and it was exciting every time we caught something to see if we had a keeper. Captain Phillip and 850 Charters are the real deal. Whether you’re a family with kids or a seasoned angler, they’ll get you on the fish—and they’ll do it with energy, knowledge, and heart. I’ve been on other charters. Nothing compares. We had FUN the entire time. Captain Phillip checked on everyone throughout the day, especially with the seas being a bit rough at times. He made sure we were having fun, feeling good, and ready to try for something new if we wanted to. He baited hooks, helped the kids get a fish on the line, talked us through landing fish, and never once got frustrated—not even when we lost bait or tangled lines. I've been out with other Charters. This was different. It was such a wonderful experience that it created memories we’ll have for forever. If you’re looking, stop. You’ve found the right company. You’ve found the right captain. After we got back, we went to dinner at the Back Porch, and all we could do was talk about the trip. We were still on Cloud 9. 10/10 rating. No question.
