We spent a week in Puerto Rico; this fishing trip was our worst experience. As a family, we expected the trip to be fun and engaging. However, it was far from that.

The captain told us we would troll for about an hour and then go near the lighthouse to do some gigging. We searched for the first hour, where we got a small barracuda and another bite that took off as soon as we started reeling it in.

After the first 1 hour, we went near the lighthouse and did gigging for about 30 + minutes with no bite.

Again, the captain decided that we could troll around the island, and we spent 2 hours digging with nothing.

The captain was wasting time and didn’t have a plan B. Just let’s waste the 4 hours until he gets the payment.

He should have had a plan B with cut bait or live bait, but all he did was troll with no plan in place. I don’t recommend this trip.

I really didn’t want to post a review but Fishbooker keeps sending emails.  On one side, the captain is obviously a great bill fish fisherman.  I conveyed on my initial booking that I wanted to catch what was hot at the time and didn’t want to troll for marlin if they are not there.  White/blue marlin, dolphin, tuna, wahoo, king, tarpon, grouper all would have been ok.  Well, other than my money, nothing was hot at the time.  Before traveling, I asked if there would be a good option and that I wanted to make sure we had a good shot.  I am a fisherman before anything else and understand when a bite is good and when you are just praying for a hook up.  Our trip was not good in any way, I still tipped because we did spend a day out.  Without three to four points of contact, you couldn’t stand.  The seas were bigger than a 25 foot boat was comfortable handling.  I started to think that the captain was more interested in the booking money than having a chance at a good trip.  Then the captain said that it’s not a good time and we may have a slight chance.  Come to find out, that part of the island was not good at the time and there was no real plan B.  We booked with another guide two days later that said he has been turning down offshore bookings because the fish are not in and he’s tired of clients puking off of his boat.  This was the biggest let down of our 10 days on Puerto Rico.  We booked two more trips after this one that were outstanding.  I’ll just say the guide I would recommend is not on Fishbooker.

So we had very high hopes for a fun morning fishing. We spent most of the day driving around “looking for fish”…besides the one small porgie that the deck hand caught and pretended to let my guard girlfriend finish reeling in, there was a bite and one small fish we caught trolling. Literally 95% of the day was driving and 5% fishing, jigging in water where he allegedly saw fish on his tracker. 45 minutes was spent trying to avoid birds that were attacking the trolling bait, even caught a bird and spent time reeling in the injured bird that was hooked by two of the Baits and hooks. When I asked the captain about a discount or refund and he quickly shut me down saying no way. I can’t believe the lousy experience and will never use This charter again.
