Great afternoon out. Crew knew the fishing spots well and quickly put us on to catching Jacks and a king mackerel, we ended up keeping the mackerel to eat.

Oscar and Slade were very good. Worked hard to put us on fish . We only got one sailfish but not for want of trying. Oscar worked the waters but the fish were not cooperating. That’s why it is called fishing and not catching. Still had fun.

Oscar and George worked hard to put us on some fish on a slow day and fed us great snacks. We caught a nice sailfish and several tuna. We also saw lots of dolphins and some sea turtles. Be sure to pay with cash as PayPal may not work for the guide.

We could see tons of fish, had lines in the water, got some nibbles and 2 good bites, but got skunked.  Captain Oscar and Sr. Ulate…his father ...did their best to make it happen on the fly, but the trip boiled down to…no bait.  In my opinion, a chartered boat should have bait lined up before the trip, we spent half our time trying for bait fish with Sabiki.  I was under the impression I paid to get after some game fish, not surf perch and sardines.  Captain Ulate was familiar with his equipment and the fishing grounds, and appeared to be very frustrated with the lack of easy bait fishing.  Again, IMO that’s not something that should have come up on charter.  We could have netted a ton of bait at the start, but the net is not a tool onboard Osmak Fishing.  The boat operated by Osmak floats and the motor ran without a hitch, nothing fancy, it’s a workhorse.  The boat is launched from a low tide land based ramp and requires climbing in or out on water. There is some creative troll rigging and seat cushions.  Oh well, fishing can be a no win a lot of the time and it was disappointing to not land just 1 decent fish, especially when we motored through schools of them.  But that’s the way it goes.  My son and I will try again some day, but I know how to screen my captain for the future.
All in all, the trip was a pleasure as far as company and weather, and my son did get to land a bait fish.  The possibility of failure when fishing is high, so I don’t want to overshadow OSMAKs attempts and knowledge with the disappointment of getting skunked, so these guys get 4 stars for attitude and effort.  As far as offering a full service game fishing experience, it felt more like a day of family fishing that was thought about maybe 1 day in advance.

The captain was very accomodating. Our teenage boys really wanted to catch mahi-mahi. And we were lucky to catch 3!
