While the croaker catch continues for those of us who are just fishing for the first time… the keepers are present too for those who know how to fish. Every trip is different, and every anglers ability is differeny, and the conditions are different, etc etc etc. Meanwhile our Junior Anglers have been all Smiles with their FIRST CATCHES!

Lots of Life, few keepers and Bonito

Sea Bass season closed til July when it reopens at one per person. Fluke are here, but keepers are hard to work for and catch. We have also caught Atlantic Bonito and if you know what you are doing, these can be caught too.

Slammer trips for Black Drum

This past week, we had 6:00 PM trips with up to 20 Black Drum. Fish weighing up to 60 lbs! It has been an awesome bite and we are looking forward to more over the coming weeks!

The Sea Bass are chewing! Some angler limits and one boat limit this past week with calm conditoons- who could ask for better fishing????? We are offering four open boat trips, eight hour trips open boat on Thursdays and four hour or eight charters for 7 to up to 80 anglers.

Captain Mike reports a steady pick on Fluke and Sea Bass. More throwbacks are caught than keepers, but the keeper ratio is good. Other rarities for early in the season have included Triggerfish and Kingfish.

Captain John reports hit or miss fishing with good trips with up to 8 or 9 fish up to 65 lbs and other trips with nothing. That is drum fish. The Delaware Bay can be fickle place to fish at times. This spring fishery for Drumfish is a mainstay of Cape May, New Jersey and the fishing is pretty simple. Bottom fishing on the NJ side while anchored. We are fishing whole fresh clams on 50-60lb leader with 7/0 or 8/0 hooks. Both Circle hooks and J hooks work. This fishery continues through May at our 6:00 PM time and is open to the public.

Unless you’re bringing your kids on their first trip, don’t bother. Very overcrowded and the Capt. only will put you on shark nurseries (4 - 6 inch dogfish) and tiny croakers. If you’re lucky, you might hook a 6 inch flounder!

Excellent crew. Boat would benefit from a few more amenities like coffee or snacks but overall a fun experience and fishing that exceeded expectations. My friend and I caught a total of 7 fish, which ain’t bad for two dudes that don’t know what they’re doing haha.
