Captain Matt is very focused on catching fish. My daughter (she’s 24)and I went out for the 5am charter and Capt. Matt was all business. We started catching walleye instantly.  He doesn’t talk much, so if you want someone with a lot to say I don’t think Capt. Matt is your guy. He is watching lines and getting a rod in your hands that have a fish on it. He said the bite wasn’t very good but we thought 2 hours to limit out was pretty good. So if you want someone that seems like he really wants to see you catch fish ,Capt. Matt is your guy. The boat was nothing fancy. It seemed like a little bit of a heavy boat where we didn’t get beat up. That was nice. I did like that you could sit up front where it’s covered and warm for the 5am ride out. He said there was a toilet but we didn’t use it. We took a small cooler for drinks and some muffins for breakfast. Leave the big cooler in the car for when you get back with the fish. Take ziplock bags to put your filets in , Captain Matt will clean and filet for you. If you ask him to take pictures, check them out, he’s not a very good photographer. Lol. But he knows fish. There was 2 of us I wouldn’t go with more than 3 , I’m not sure what he allows but to me more than 3 people fishing would be a little tight. I will use him again if we decide to do another charter. Thinking lake trout in the spring.

This was our first time on a charter boat on Erie and it couldn’t have been a better experience.  It was a rough ride out of the marina with some real choppy waves and winds, but Captian Matt handled it like the pro he is.  The fishing started off hot and we were rolling. Great way to enjoy the day with my son and his girlfriend. Captian Matt definitely knows how to put you on the fish, plus his easy going manner and willingness to answer even the most mundane questions put us at ease and made for a really enjoyable experience.  This was the way to go! And taking home a bunch of slab filets that he took care of for us was awesome! Time for a fish fry!

Captain Matt was prompt and courteous in returning our calls and answering our questions ahead of the trip and recommended we push the launch time out an hour as he was confident we would be on fish right away. Of course, we agreed with his expert advice and were on fish the minute we put our lines out half an hour after launching. At one point we had four or five fish on the hook waiting for us to reel them in. We all got our limits and the fish were of excellent size and weight. We cannot wait until next year to book with Dog’s Life Charter again!

I had booked a 7 hour trip with Captain Matt and everything went smooth.  I met him at the boat launch at 5:00 AM and shortly after that we were headed out to catch some walleye.  After about a 20 minute boat ride, we started to get the lines in the water. It wasn’t long before we had the first fish in the boat. Two hours later we were limited out.  Captain Matt kept me entertained the whole time with stories about his previous life as a restaurateur, his trips to Alaska to fish for salmon and halibut, and his experience as a hunting guide in South Dakota. Even without the success fishing it would’ve been an enjoyable day.  I was lucky enought to pick a perfect weather day, too. It was a great day, and I’ll probably look up Captain Matt when I come back here next year.

My husband and I had the best day ever fishing with Captain Matt.  Matt was a great host, a veteran fisherman of Lake Erie, and knew just where to go.  Matt had everything we needed for a great day of fishing.  We caught our limit of walleye for the day a little early, and then did some sightseeing around the Bay.  Matt cleaned our fish for us and provided wonderful service as our fishing guide.  This fishing trip was amazing! I actually got a blister on my hand from reeling in all of our fish!  I highly recommend Dog’s Life Sport Fishing.  Thank you, Captain Matt!  We hope to fish with you again soon!
