Since I could walk, I have lived fishing! Constantly absorbing information and tossing a line in at every opportunity. I began as a kid in TN fishing lakes, creeks, rivers, and cow ponds. Although, for living in a landlocked state, I could not shake this fascination for everything ocean related. I attended college and gained two bachelor's degrees (wildlife fisheries science and biology with a concentration in marine science). After college, I moved with my best friend and fishing partner to South Florida where my offshore career sprouted. Beginning on the drift boat as a mate for Fishing Headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, FL, I quickly moved on to the sport-fish boats to learn the various tactics of South Florida fishing. With the Gulf Stream so close, you can't ask for a better place to learn the art of sport-fishing. Kite fishing for Sails, live bait trolling for monster Kings and Wahoo, dropping on wrecks for huge Grouper and Reef Donkeys, deep dropping for Tiles and Snapper, and Swordfishing to name a few. It's truly a fisherman's dream. After around 3.5 years I had an opportunity to move down to St. Croix, USVI and I jumped at it. The Virgin Islands are a unique place, and I'm all for it. Going on 6 years, I have no plans to leave. After fishing for several different outfits, it was time to begin my own operation. Down South Charters was born in June of 2022. My goal is always to put clients on the fish of a lifetime, but I am equally as passionate about sharing what knowledge I can and encouraging everyone to become a better steward for our planet.     GREAT EXPERIENCE

    we were in town celebrating my dads 86th birthday. he loves to fish. he had a great time and not only did we catch 2 Mahi but also had an orca swim right by us. our captain was very experienced, organized, fun and communicated great before the trip too. Highly recommend.

    Captain Randy came through again!!! Was an incredible trip and caught and released a “fish of a lifetime”. He worked as hard as any captain I have been with to make sure everyone has a great time.

Tuna, Wahoo, and Mahi! What's not to lov

These last few months have been amazing for tuna fishing! Certain days have shown multiple boils of various species (skipjack, bonita, and blackfin) and the yellowfin are never far behind. Not to mention the other predators that love to feed on these smaller tunas ( wahoo and marlin). Winter is typically our wahoo season, so there are sure to be some of these guys around until the waters start to warm up. With the high winds we have experienced over the past couple weeks, it has been difficult to target the wahoo, but as soon as things die down we intend to go right back after them! Larger size mahi are also starting to be caught in the area. These guys prefer to feed in the more choppy conditions that we have been seeing, but their numbers will increase more as we move into spring. Our pelagic species in the waters surrounding St. Croix are constantly on the move, so what slays the fish one day may not the next, but hey that's fishing. Here is my fishing guarantee - "You can't catch them sitting on the dock" ;)
