Trip Summary
These last few months have been amazing for tuna fishing! Certain days have shown multiple boils of various species (skipjack, bonita, and blackfin) and the yellowfin are never far behind. Not to mention the other predators that love to feed on these smaller tunas ( wahoo and marlin).
Winter is typically our wahoo season, so there are sure to be some of these guys around until the waters start to warm up. With the high winds we have experienced over the past couple weeks, it has been difficult to target the wahoo, but as soon as things die down we intend to go right back after them!
Larger size mahi are also starting to be caught in the area. These guys prefer to feed in the more choppy conditions that we have been seeing, but their numbers will increase more as we move into spring.
Our pelagic species in the waters surrounding St. Croix are constantly on the move, so what slays the fish one day may not the next, but hey that's fishing.
Here is my fishing guarantee - "You can't catch them sitting on the dock" ;)
