Great trip for a first time fisherman. Captain Troy is a great teacher. We went two days in a row, one day for pike one day for walleye. He’s very knowledgeable will put the sardines on the hook for the walleye ! For pike you use lures. All you have to do is show up dressed in layers, wear tennis shoes, sunscreen, and a hat and take water. . He has everything else. I was dreading it. I’m not a fisherman and was only going to be a good wife now I’m hooked. I’m looking forward to going fishing again.

If you are a beginner research your vocabulary we had no idea “angling” was equivalent to fly fishing (in fact just learned this with this question)?we thought angling was equivalent to spin casting? Such rookies We didn’t know what we didn’t know!

It’s a great trip. The lake we fished was about 2 hours outside of Calgary. I recommend, contacting captain Troy to nail down trip logistics, and then plan accordingly and enjoy your trip.

When fishing in Calgary for the first time definitely recommend getting a guide who knows the area so you aren't wasting time figuring out places/lures to use to catch fish in the area.

We got lucky because were were in between high rainy times when the river was blown-out. Fish were biting all day long!
