What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Sydney, New South Wales for the first time?

Other than having no problem catching bait fish we had terrible luck finding anything. With a bigger boat that could handle the waves better and more than one fishing pole and just a different captain Sydney fishing in January might be OK.
