Fresh Hook Dat Fishing Charters – Louisiana Fishing Reports
LOUISIANA FISHING REPORT - JUNE 28, 2020
June 28, 2020
The Louisiana Fishing Guides at Hook Dat Fishing Charters have been finding good numbers of redfish and sheepshead stacked up in the marsh. The speckled trout bite has been mediocre this past week due to consistent high winds and intermittent thunderstorms keeping the water churned up. However we have been putting together some solid boxes of redfish, sheepshead and some speckled trout mixed in. Best luck has been on live shrimp with Four Horseman popping cork. Redfishing in the morning and afternoon has been strong in the interior marshes. Redfishing in southeast Louisiana near Shell Beach has been good and we're ready for some less windy weather to get those big speckled trout bites going again.

LOUISIANA FISHING REPORT - JUNE 21, 2020
June 21, 2020
The Louisiana Fishing Guides at Hook Dat Fishing Charters have been hitting the speckled trout, redfish and snapper hard. The fishing has been excellent now that we have gotten past the recent tropical storm and cold front that passed through our region. We have been finding large speckled trout in and around some rigs. Drop shot live shrimp combined with 1/2 oz jig head and matrix shad have been producing the larger trout bite and hitting oyster reefs on a carolina rig with live shrimp and matrix shad have been producing some big numbers of trout. We have been catching over 100+ trout a day with about 1/2 of them just under the 12" size limit. But mixed in are some nice slabs allowing us to fill the coolers up with some nice specks. Redfishing during peak tidal movement from about 9 AM to 11 AM has been producing great slot limit reds to top of the morning catches. We had some really nice weather this past weekend allowing us to get out to the deeper water rigs and get on some great red snapper fishing. Catching limits of red snapper is pretty easy right now, just got to find the right rig and the right depth and the snapper fishing is fast and furious. Fishing in southeast Louisiana near Shell Beach has been excellent and we're ready for another great week of fishing! Come get you some!

LOUISIANA FISHING REPORT - JUNE 14, 2020
June 14, 2020
The Louisiana Fishing Guides at Hook Dat Fishing Charters have been experiencing some pretty good fishing considering the late cold front that passed through following tropical strom cristobol. Tyipcally after a tropical storm or hurricane fishing is off the charts good, but the cold front that dropped in just after the tropical storm passed through threw us for a loop. We had to deal with strong winds that turned the water up into a dirty mess which makes it difficult to find and pattern fish. Combine that with cooler than normal temperatures, it made for some challenging fishing conditions. With that being said we spent a lot of time scouting and finding the cleanest water we could find. Once we found areas that were cleaning up pretty good we found good speckle trout fishing. If the speckle trout were not cooperating we went after redfish, sheepshead, black drum and even some bass. As soon as the wind switched out of the east, the water started cleaning up good and the speckled trout fishing got hot! By the end of the week, we were filling the coolers up with limits of speckled trout and adding some nice limits of redfish to go along with it. Get out and find that clean water and it will pay off!

LOUISIANA FISHING REPORT - MAY 31, 2020
May 31, 2020
The Louisiana Fishing Guides at Hook Dat Fishing Charters have been dealing with some weird fishing conditions throughout the last week. We have been having strong winds and weak tides, which threw the fish into abnormal feeding patterns. Fish have been scattered and acting similar to straight out of winter patterns rather than the usual strong spring and summer pattern. The positive was that when you find em' you don't have to move far. You can stay on em'. But finding fish the last week is taking more time and effort but that's what we do! We found some good speckled trout bites working oyster reefs inside Hopedale and hitting shell piles on points with bait fish and or diving birds present. We have also been finding good redfish bites while concentrating on interior marshes with large grass beds and mixed oyster reef bottoms. Also, finding diving birds put us on some good redfish bites. Different weather and water conditions bring us to different areas on any given day. Some days we ran 70 to 80 miles to find good speckled trout fishing and on other days we stacked them up within a 15 minute boat ride in the interior marshes. Water clarity this time of year is a big part of the success! Wind can and will blow out of any direction and will cause water in certain areas to get dirty. Since we are on the water every day, we are able to make the necessary adjustments to stay on fish this past week. The fishing was a bit tough but still had some good days. Just required a lot more running. With Tropical Storm Cristobol moving through the area as we speak, next week as the waters recede, challenging fishing conditions will probably persist. The trick will be to get out and find areas where the water tends to clear up first and you should find fish. We will be out on the water as soon as this tropical storm moves through getting back on the bite!

LOUISIANA FISHING REPORT - MAY 24, 2020

The Charter Captains at Hook Dat Fishing Charters is happy to announce Red Snapper Season has arrived here in Southeast Louisiana. This week we took several groups out to the rigs to bang on some nice Red Snapper. The Snapper bite was good this past weekend and all of our boats were limiting out on Snapper quick. After getting our limits of Snapper and catching a few bonus Cobia we headed back in and got on some nice slot limit Speckled Trout and Redfish. We are happy, happy, happy that Snapper season is back. The weather has been great and we have been taking advantage of the great weather. Still catching some nice big trout near sandy bottom islands. Finding clear water is still key to finding good schools of trout and with the weather being great this week we have had some phenomenal charter fishing trips. Most trout this week were slot limit trout between 12" - 17", with a few big trout mixed in. Redfish are still easy to pattern and have been staying on redfish limits all week. A few of us captains got to get out on the water with our family this week and enjoy some great fishing and family time. Whether you come fish with us or get out and do it yourself, get out there while the fishing is hot and get those kids fishing and make memories with them they will never forget!

LOUISIANA FISHING REPORT - MAY 17, 2020

The Charter Captains at Hook Dat Fishing Charters have been on the fish all week long. Big trout being caught out in the Gulf near oil rigs and sandy bottom islands. We had plenty of big 3-5 pounders all week. Took a group out to the islands and after catching a 5 man limit of trout and we got on some big schools of Spanish Mackerel. We switched to shallow running jerk baits and they Spanish Mackerel were tearing it up as soon as the lures hit the water. Just about any chrome plated shallow running jerk bait was working. We had 2 days where the wind would not allow us to get out into the Gulf so we pounded on slot limit redfish and a couple of 30-35 lb bull reds mixed in. Towads the end of the week we got back on some goods schools of speckled trout in the inner marsh and bays. Great week of fishing with some awesome clients!
