Contact captain in advance. Confirm where to meet. Confirm what to bring. You'll need to pack food, drink, sun screen, hat, and something warm in case the sun isn't out. If you want music or entertainment other than the fishing, bring that too. Marty has a cheeky, dry sense of humor. We loved it.

Prepare for an amazing day on the water. Regardless of the fishing, the location is unbelievable. Fish are fish, every hour is different. If you catch 1 or bag out, it's been a great day, otherwise, a bad days fishing beats the best day at work, hands down! Tight lines, and best of luck.

Experienced fly fishers should target brown trout in the Tongariro River at the southern end of Lake Taupo. It seems the big Rainbow trout are located a fair few meters below the surface (i.e. deep water) so unless you have your own boat etc, then best to charter an equipped boat.
