Why Tampa Bay Has The Best Shark Fishing
Why Tampa Bay Has The Best Shark Fishing
July 24, 2020
Tampa Bay shark fishing is some of the best in the world and easily the best in Florida! While you can find sharks all over Florida’s coasts, the water in Tampa Bay is just something special. The bay is very well known as being a nursery to more than a dozen different species of sharks. Where there are babies, there are momma and daddy sharks. We’ve all heard the song… ( baby shark na na na... ) We have found that the Black Tip, Hammerhead, and Bull sharks are the most common in Tampa Bay, which results in extremely high success rates for our fishing charters. We get asked the question often of “what’s the best time of year to go shark fishing?”. Our answer is simple: 24 hours a day, 364 days a year! For some reason, they leave on Christmas Day… Although there are always sharks in Tampa Bay, our strategies and fishing locations change with the seasons. Sharks absolutely LOVE warm water, and we use this to our advantage during the colder months. As the water begins to warm up in the summer, the sharks tend to venture to deeper waters such as the channel and the mouth of the bay. Therefore, Tampa Bay’s Egmont Key is famous for producing pictures of 10+ foot Hammerhead sharks in crystal clear water every year! Another key to our success is the food chain. Knowing where the fish are is critical to shark fishing success. Sharks are predators, so it’s no surprise that they stay where the fish are. That’s why we use the term “got sharked” when a fisherman pulls up half of a fish. As much as a shark loves an easy meal, offering that meal the right way is a tricky balance. Sharks have been on this earth for over 400 million years for a reason, so you must be a skilled fisherman to get their attention. In conclusion, whether you’re hunting, fishing, or buying a house, it always comes down to LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! Shark fishing in Tampa Bay is one-of-a-kind, so when you’re planning your next shark trip, make sure Tampa Bay is at the top of that list. And don’t forget that going with an experienced and knowledgeable captain will ensure that you get the most out of this amazing adventure.

Our Go-To Spots For The Best Hook & Cook
Our Go-To Spots For The Best Hook & Cook
July 4, 2020
The next best thing to spending a day on the water hooking onto fish after fish, is bringing your bounty to a local restaurant to enjoy your fresh catch for lunch or dinner. It’s a great way to celebrate and relax after a hot day under the Florida sun, while literally eating the *fish* of your labor. Following is a list of our three favorite restaurants that provide this “Hook & Cook” service in the Tampa Bay area. Don’t forget to add one (or all) of these amazing restaurants to your bucket list when you’re booking your next charter! Hook Waterfront Bar and Grill, located right next door to our private marina at The Resort and Club at Little Harbor in Ruskin, FL, is one of our top go-to restaurants for a spectacular Hook & Cook meal. Surrounded by views of the Tampa Bay, their relaxing atmosphere will be just what you need after a long day on the water. Sit back, sip a cocktail, and enjoy the nightly live entertainment while you await your delicious meal. All of your hard work will be well worth it when you smell the aroma of your cooked catch on its way to you! Dead Bob’s is our favorite sports bar to unwind at in St. Petersburg, FL. Despite the name, you can expect to always have a great time while enjoying their upbeat staff, killer drinks, and live sports on the big screens. Their kitchen’s classic and familiar American style is guaranteed to be enjoyed by everyone in your group when they take your catch of the day and grill, fry, or blacken it to perfection. 220 East on Davis Island in Tampa, FL has been a staple for locals over the past two decades. This neighborhood bar and grill started offering a “you-catch-it-we’ll-cook-it” option in 2018, where they take your catch of the day, cook it any way you prefer, and include sides of your choice. This kid-friendly spot offers many elegant dish options for the adults, while still maintaining their comfortable, come-as-you-are atmosphere. If you are heading straight home, our captains are more than happy to filet your fish before you hit the road. But if you have time to enjoy Tampa Bay just a little while longer, be sure to check out one of our favorite restaurants from the list above. Just call ahead and let them know you’re bringing your catch with you, and we guarantee you will end a day you won’t forget with a meal that will keep you coming back trip after trip.

Crevalle Boats: The Best Of The Best!
Crevalle Boats: The Best Of The Best!
July 3, 2020
In just ten short years, Crevalle Boats has become one of the leading boat manufacturers in the country. They have set themselves apart with their quality craftmanship and attention to detail, leading them to a finalist selection for the 2019 Florida Sterling Manufacturing Business Excellence Award, as well as being premiered in the Florida Sportsman Magazine on numerous occasions. Crevalle Boats’ headquarters is located in Wildwood, Florida, only an hour and a half away from Tampa Bay, so when Poseidon Charters began their search for the best boat on the market, it should come as no surprise that we chose Crevalle. At Poseidon Charters, our motto is, “it’s not just a charter”. We want you and your family to leave the dock with memories that will last a lifetime, and Crevalle Boats helps us make that happen. The 26 Bay Crevalle boat showcases many luxurious components, with our favorite being the water misters under the T-top. These misters are critical for taking a hot July day of fishing in Florida from good to GREAT! We also love the sound speakers built into the hard top and gunnels, from which you can play all your favorite tunes while you’re reeling in your trophy catch. A few other luxuries our boat offers include three live wells to keep our bait fresh; plenty of seating for your whole group; a second helm station that helps the captain spot fish; two ice chests to separate your cold drinks and catch of the day; and plenty of dry storage to keep all your belongings safe during your day on the water. Though these boats are undoubtedly luxurious, they are built for much more than just comfort. It has all the qualities of the perfect fishing boat, including a 90 gallon fuel tank that allows us to be out on the water all day, up to 450 horsepower so we can get to the good fishing spots first, and a shallow draft that allows us to stay in just one foot of water where those sneaky snook and redfish love to hang out. Our “hybrid” model allows us to take you both 90 miles offshore and then back into the shallowest of waters for an inshore excursion. These boats are truly the king of the ocean.

What is Inshore Fishing? Our Most Family
What is Inshore Fishing? Our Most Family
July 2, 2020
In-shore fishing is an action-packed and exciting aquatic adventure that is enjoyed by all ages. Whether you have never fished a day in your life or you are a seasoned professional, you will surely have a blast. When you embark on an in-shore fishing trip in Tampa Bay, you can expect to catch many varieties of fish, including Triple Tail, Red Fish, Snook, Snapper, and Flounder. Technically speaking, in-shore fishing takes place in water less than thirty meters deep. This includes the bay, along the shore, and in mangroves where some of those sneaky fish like to hide out. However, the definition of in-shore fishing can vary depending on the area you are fishing and the fisherman you are talking to. That being said, it is important to note that it is the depth of the water that determines whether or not you are in-shore fishing, not necessarily how far from the coast line you are. One of the highlights of in-shore fishing is that you are rarely waiting on a fish to bite. Because of the sheer quantity of fish that you often acquire during one of these trips, it is easy to pull in a week's worth of meals in just one afternoon! This should come as exciting news for a group who may not want to, or be able to, be out on the water all day, making it a great activity for the whole family. Whether you are looking to go on a solo fishing trip or with a large group; catch a bunch of fish for meat or cast endlessly for hours; or just enjoy the calm waters of Tampa Bay and the surrounding shore line, in-shore fishing is guaranteed to be enjoyed by everyone year round.

Just let the expert teach you how to fish. We went quite a ways out and caught lots of fish, I was hoping to catch a tarpon but they weren’t biting.
