It was cold and rough waters but with a good Captain he can get you on some fish. It was harder to find the fish but once we did we stayed catching fish for hours. I would recommend Captain Eric with Island Adventure Charters he will get you on the fish in January.

unfortunately we went during a cold front blowing in. The fish werent biting much and it was difficult to find spots to anker in the wind. The guide was great!

If fishing in January, definitely wear windbreakers and several layers as the trip out on the lake gets very cold. Thermal gloves are highly recommended in addition to a face mask to break the cold wind.

We were out for 5 hours and caught 9 keepers (6 redfish and 3 black drums). We were catching fish within minutes of our first spot. Even when the water was getting extremely calm we were still catching fish just not a lot of keepers.

I’m from Galveston TX area where we usually fish around different structures & deeper waters, but in SPI its all flat & shallow. Best to use a guide to take you where the fish are biting. Captain Hector Lopez knew where to go. He took us out in the middle of the bay to different areas called Potholes where they have big areas of sand hidden in the grass of 3-5 feet of water. We were catching fish on lures after Christmas when fish really aren’t biting much. Gotta Love SPI
