Fresh Assateague Lighthouse Fishing Reports

While the flounder still shows consistently good action, we did catch and release the first real shark in Chincoteague for the 2025 season this week. A heavy Hammerhead was brought boatside and released, with another lost during the fight. As temperatures continue to warm, the action will only improve. Despite being booked up for most of June, there is availability during the third week. Check our calander for last minute availabilities. As the waters continue to warm and the weather stabilizes, big fish are moving from south to north creating multiple chances at the fish of a lifetime. Trophy striped bass and bull redfish cruise the surf and inlet areas, while larger flounder move into their summertime ambush spots. Beat the holiday rush by fishing this week. The flounder bite has been steady for weeks now, and the size is holding with plenty of 20 inch plus fish making it to the cutting board. Additionally, our newly added afternoon "Family Fun Fishing" 3 hour trips seem very popular as an affordable option for younger and more inexperienced anglers to do some catching. Whiting, spot and a few flounder keep the rods busy while we wait for the first sharks of the season to show. Expect as the water warms for the variety and quantity of fish to expand. The last 3 weeks of flounder on the coastal bays have produced many tasty fillets for anglers. The wind has been challenging. But anglers who brave it out have seen bent rods. The best fishing has been the outgoing tide. Water temps have been in the lower 60's. Favorite tackle has been our hand-tied double rig with a gold flash upper hook and either a white or pink skirts or plain lower hook tipped with silversides (our best choice), minnows,gulp the best bite has been either white or a new penny gulp shrimp. Don't be afraid to add a silverside to your gulp! Happy fishing..

Although the north winds still blow, we're only a few short weeks away from those first flounder and stripers. Prospecting may begin as early as next week. The new motor is mounted, the new trailer is broken in, and Shadrunner awaits her spring painting and touch-up. As we turn the page on the calender, winter has begun to set in earnest. Water temps in the 30s have slowed the bite to a trickle, but the few fish we are catching are an impressive size, including this 30 incher (released) on New Years Eve. As the north winds howl, we have begun to set the table for the coming season. A new motor, new trailer, and all-Tackle update and rigging. All this to provide the angler the highest degree of performance and reliability possible. We are seeking a historical designation for "Shadrunner" as a working waterman's vessel. She's been a great old vessel and we hope to see her for many seasons to come. Our plan is no price increase for 2025 to continue our tradition of "Affordable Family Fun Fishing".
