Kenai Coldwater Fishing
If you are hoping for salmon, they just aren't running this early in the upper kenai. Also, we were blessed with perfect weather midJune, so 2 layers was fine, but on a colder rainy day, it would be cooler.

Know that you can buy an inexpensive styrofoam cooler from a local sporting goods, grocery or general store โ and save significantly by taking the cooler with you on your flight home. Remember to keep the cardboard box when you buy the cooler! The airlines wonโt check the styrofoam cooler unless itโs enclosed in a cardboard box.

If you're fishing for the very first time, don't worry about what you do no know. Robert takes care of everything...I mean everything! He teaches you how to fish and provides all the gear. Just show up with a fishing license which is only $15 for one day for non residents.

If you book a morning trip in Sterling, the mornings can be really chilly on the river - even at the end of July (~48 F). Layer up; it probably only warmed up to the mid-50's F by 11. Keep in mind you'll be wading in cold water and there's gonna be some serious wind chill on the boat ride up the Kenai!

We had just come from Soldotna the day before and the fishing was insane. So virtually nothing we could have done this day, would have compared to a massive sockeye run that had just hit yesterday 50 miles away, while we were in Copper Landing. Just the timing of the runs.
