As expected it was busy being July 4th weekend, and the wind was real tough to cast where you wanted to, but our guide was great and got us in some calmer spots to get the job done.

Most of the time I have fished Port O’Conner I got my limit on redfish or trout; not so this time as redfish was slow and we failed to get our limit on trout for July 1st and July 2nd, but still had a good time.

The weather in May is a gamble, we started off with overcast skies which made for a pleasant morning of fishing. Later in the morning the sun was out and got warm. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Also, Matagorda bay can get very busy with fisherman, so recommend leaving the dock no later than 6AM to get to the prime spots.

We went with an evening trip on the bay rather than a morning one and it paid off. Caught a ton of fish but had to move the boat a couple of times to keep it going. We always catch a lot of fish in October on the coast.
