If you want to be on the striper I would recommend going a little bit earlier in the season. It was pretty cold in the morning so I wouldn’t recommend for kids.

Yes, great for first timers or novice.
The Captain and First Mate of Never Enuff Express were extremely patient and professional with our family group. They set an excellent example for the younger “crew” that were experiencing a time of their life. As to we seniors who never fished before-look out world! We are going shopping for our rods and reels!!!

It depends - is a hurricane two days out ?
The weather played a part in the fishing so it’s unfair to assess Freeport in August
Overall it was beautiful- August is a lovely time of year and Freeport is a great spot to head out from

Keep your eyes peeled, you never know what you might see. In the summer in NYC, you can catch humpback whales, dolphins, and apparently loggerhead sea turtles. The marine life in and around NYC seems to be flourishing, our waterways are cleaner than they’ve ever been before.

Bring your own fishing poles, the pole they provide are good, only issue is they only have “Right Handed Poles” and they are “Bait Cast” poles so it is difficult to cast further than 3-5 feet off the boat. For best results bring a “Spin Cast Reel” which allows you to cast further out and also helps you not get tangled in other peoples lines….

We decided to take our parents fishing this weekend. Although the weather was a bit windy and cloudy, we were safe throughout the trip. It was our first time fishing in the sea, and it was a great experience overall. However, we did all get a bit seasick, so if you’re considering this, be prepared! A big thank you to the captain and crew—they were fantastic. We would definitely do this again.

Hudson Fishing Charters
Do it! I lost count after hooking into 5 bluefish - the smallest was probably about 7 pounds. We landed one small schoolie bass. The fish were coming in fresh from the ocean. The weather was awesome - not too cold, not too hot. I grew up in New York and I had never seen the skyline from that particular angle.
