Went out for a half day trip today, and was rewarded for our hard work and landed a nice califorina halibut.

Ran a over night with a group of 4 passengers and scored on the ghost fish. Ended out day with 1 nice one. Lost a few in the mix but its callwd foshing for a reason.

Winter months

Colder water means slower fishing. Typically Nov-March we target Rock Fish, Halibut, Sculpin, Sheepshead, White Fish, Calico Bass, Sand Bass and and White Sea Bass. A nice halibut or white sea bass is a prize. The water is cold during these months and every day is completely different because of a half dozen or more factors. Yesterday we saw tins of Dolphins playing just a few feet away from the boat. Fishing was slow bt tomorrow it can be great! Always fun to see everything Dana Point has to show off on its breathtaking coastline. If you want to go big during winter - swordfish. Very rare to catch one but they are out there.

Be flexible and listen to your captain/guide. If you want to target a specific species you. A but run the risk of not catching anything. The captain will know what is and is not biting. If they make a suggestion I would listen because they want to put you in position to catch some fish and have some fun. So talk to them and make a game plan before your trip and take their advice into consideration and you will make some great memories just like I did!!!
