Fresh Rollover Pass Fishing Reports

The spring bite is on! We spent the day working the edge of the marsh along the ICW and found a limit of good sized slot redfish along with several reds over 30" and a nice keeper flounder on live finger mullet. After catching our limits of redfish we began working channels with depths between 8-10 feet and found a good mess of undersized flounder by slowly working chartreuse swim baits along the bottom.

Two trips this week has been very productive lots of water flow

Surface water temperature is 86 degrees. As in previous weeks, the water clarity is still stirred up in the majority of East Galveston Bay, with clearer water as you get closer to the western portion of the Bay, with a distinct line as you venture closer over to Galveston. We are finding a few trout & reds in the intracoastal around structure. This past week we have burned a good deal of gas and time taking the 40 min ride over to the Jettys to find clear water and a solid trout bite. We are utilizing Mirror Lure suspending hard baits, Swim Baits, and Tails with 1/8 oz heads in light colors. Our clients are still enjoying excellent success using Fish Smack Popping corks with a 1-to-2-foot leader above shrimp imitation lures, as well as Salt & Pepper Tails by WacAttack. The Topwater bite has still been good when utilized on our early morning and late afternoon trips, so if you like throwing walking baits, now is a great time to get on the water and make it happen. The sheephead and speckled trout bite has been great with these current conditions. All the sheep head have been caught casting in the rocks. We use a trolling motor and drive up and down rocks that are under the water and with the right water clarity are able to see the sheephead.

Surface water temperature 75 degrees. Water clarity Good for East Galveston Bay. We battled the typical Springtime winds again this week, so it once again limited where we were able to fish effectively. We found good numbers of solid trout on the Shorelines over shell pockets and within proximity to drains where we had good current movement. If you see bait flipping on the surface the fish are close by, if not, you are best to move on to another spot, after making a few casts. The lighter the jig head the better (1/16 to 1/4), determined by the wind and current, and tails without paddles, are still performing the best, as we were utilizing Anahuac based, Wac Assassin’s in Pearly White & Chartreuse, depending upon clarity and light conditions. This week Fish Smack Popping corks with a 1-to-2-foot leader above a Marker 54 Glide Shrimp has been the top performer for our fishing friends. with a hard pop and about a 5 second pause gathering the most strikes. The new 1/8 oz Shrimplets are coming on strong as well, catching some of our larger trout. The Topwater bite has also been good of late, so if you like throwing walking baits, now is the time. Spring is here and fishing will continue to heat up as the water warms up, so grab your family and friends and beat the crowds on East Galveston Bay.
