Fresh San Clemente Fishing Reports

Wide open bite today. Clean blue 65 degree water. 2 hr charter with non stop action. I had a 3 hr charter a couple days ago and we got makeral, 1 White Sea Bass released and 4 healthy spotted bay bass released. TODAY the Barracuda were everywhere in the 28 inch and greater range much bigger than last year's Cuda. The Calico and Sandy's were attacking the surface today as well- everyone caught several species- non stop action, weather was perfect and sunny. Fish on! * Clean blue water, Barry's and Mac's mean that the big Mako's should be here feeding on them! FISH ON!

Water is warm and fish are biting! Lots of Calico bass, Sand bass, barracuda around. Yesterdays trip caught a fish every cast!

3 hr today caught smelt, rock fish and makeral. No sharks today.

Sand Dabs, White Fish and Sculpin aka "Scorpion Fish" are smaller good eating fish that have been the catch the last two days with 3-4 foot teethy Blue Sharks in the mix Thursday and Friday. Wensday the bass bite was great close to shore off the Jettis.

2 charters today- 6 hr charter 9am departure - caught 16 nice sand dabs, 3 makeral, 1 lizard fish. 3 hr charter started at 3pm- 3 sand dabs- smaller ones and one croaker. No sharks today. Water temp 58 Metered lots of fish that would not bite. When the fish don't bite right away this time of year with the colder water you need to move. Lots of looking all over the region to find a school of fish that is feeding. When you find the right school everyone usually hooks up. Please remember that during the spring it is hit and miss. The word fishing sometimes lives up to its name. Local Fish reports give counts on trips ranging from 1/2 day to multi day trips so it's hard to compare a local 3 hour trip vs a 36 hour trip out to distant Islands and Mexico waters. I want potential clients to know that fishing has no guarantees that the fish will feed/bite. We do our best. We track the fish with Sonar and fish finders. Mother nature decides the rest.

Water temps in the high 50"s, off and on winds and super strong currents = tough week of fishing. Whales and dolphins showed up! Marking lots of fish on the sonar but they were not biting. Sharking is still slow. This past week was small fish and not many of them. Examples this week- 16 inch Halibut, 17 inch barracuda, 18 inch white sea bass, and some 12 inch white fish, makeral and rock fish. The reports are not always going to be big fish and lots of em...it's fishing, we do our best. Mother nature plays a big part. Every day and week is different- spring bite =some great days fishing and some tough ones until the water warms up and then its on!! Good luck and good fishing everyone.
