Fresh San Joaquin River Fishing Reports

Started out fishing the start of the incoming tide for the day. Marked allot of fish scattered, but nothing schooled up. Water temp was 65° and there was still allot of weeds floating everywhere. We trolled both the San Joaquin and Sacramento river for one Striper that was just under legal size of 18". The latter half of the day was pretty windy and once the incoming wind hits the outgoing tide, it's a rough way to troll. We made our way back towards the San Joaquin for one more spot to troll before calling it for the day. Our incoming tide that morning at our first stop was coming from 0.02 feet up to 2.98 feet, just under a 3 foot rise. We will be back on the water Tuesday, October 29th, and will update from another location on the Delta.

We had an awesome group if fishermen and women with us this weekend. They were rewarded with action the entire time. It didnt take long for these veteran anglers to reach their limit. Fish tacos for dinner.

Yesterday with my clients Liu & Goodwin, were able to put 27 Fish inside the boat on reaction typed baits such as a 1/2 oz Jackhammer Chatterbait, in the Brett’s Hot Craw patern, KVD 1.0 & 1.5 Square Bill in the Delta Red colors, Snag Proof Frogs, Dropshot & Neko Rig. My client Jonas & I were fishing south Delta & on his 1st cast with a KVD 1.5 Delta Red square-bill crank bait, he hooked on to this beautiful 5 pound Largemouth female bass! This fish is now his personal best (PB) catch with many more to be caught on a later date & time. He not only caught that 5 pounder, he hooked up on a solid 3 pounder as well! Great job Jonas!

Our private charter of four made a strong call and agreed to postpone their day to Saturday due to high winds. It was the right call. 24 hours later and we had 70 degree temps with a light breeze. The day started out gorgeous with glass calm water and a beautiful 20 minute cruise out to where we've been getting fish recently. The timing was perfect as we put in right at the first push of water for the outgoing tide. It didn't take long, and as soon as we were done with our morning lesson on how the sturgeon bite, we got bit! It was game on with solid hook set. The fish took us for a ride around the boat, stayed close to home for a bit before lowering her shoulders and heading down river. It was almost time to pull the anchor and roll with the fish when our angler Joe did a great job of turning her around and getting her to work her way back to us. But she wasn't having it, and decided to turn her head again. When she did, there was a collective "sigh" when the tip of tthe road popped up in that all too familiar action. Yes, the hook pulled. Just a little too much pressure and the hook was'nt set as good as we thought. It was a great battle that lasted for 15 minutes and we're calling it a long distance release on a fish that was 100% an oversized Sturgeon that was going back regardless. We had some other missed solid opportunities, but the fish ended up being a little passive on their bites throughout a fairly large tide. We ended the day with a HOT under size that jumped completely out of the water before coming aboard and and our crew got to examine their first sturgeon. With water temperture slowly rising, the fish are becoming more and more aggressive. This past week the fish gods blessed us with multiple hook ups on our trips. Last Wednesday our Guest Tom with his two sons were on it and pulled two fish (White Sturgeon) in excess of 6 feet long (overall length) to the boat. One was in excess of 100 pounds. What a day!
