Fresh Yaquina Bay Fishing Reports

The Ocean Salmon Season in June started slow, but things are in full swing now! Fish will only be getting bigger, as they are actively feeding until their Fall Run up the local rivers?

While incant say that halibut has been lights out fishing, weve been able to score some quality fish. In order to do this we’ve definitely had to sort through many small ones. We try to only keep better grade fish unless we’ve injured the fish while bringing it to the boat. Id rather send people home with one excellent quality fish rather than two little dinky ones! One 40” fish will yield as much and possibly more meat than two 30” fish combined when it comes to halibut. I want your bag of filets to be nice and full when youre heading home! Nothing like fresh pacific halibut for tablefare!

This seasons lingcod fishing remains outstanding! We have either gotten ljmits of ljngcod or been very close to likits with lots of excellent grade fish. We are also catching excellent grade rockfish and usually getting limits for the boat of rockfish as well. Pics are from last couple trips out.

Lingcod fishing has been incredible lately out of Newport, OR. Some days have been hard to catch rockfish because the lingcod are so thick!! We’ve had days whwre weve release a dozen keeper lingcod while trying to finish off our rockfish bag. There have been lots of “hitchhiker” lingcod trying to eat hooked fish. We tell people to reel up nice and slowly and give the really big lingcod a chance to attack the fish that are hooked. Dont miss out on this opportunity to put some quality fish on your dinner table or in your freezer.

The past two trips have had incredible lingcod bites. They have been so aggressive that its been difficult to fill our rockfish bag limits. Weve released over 15 keeper lings on each of our last two trips after we’ve gotten our limits. Rockfish grade has been good as well. This is a great time to be fishing for lingcod!!

5 of us went out for rockfish and ling cod we limited on both 25 rockfish and 10 lings. We dropped 3 crab pots and picked up 30 large dungeness crab from the ocean.
